I've enjoyed excellent health for decades and give all the credit to exercising every day on my treadmill for 40 minutes, walking at 2.7 mph while reading. But finally my habit fell apart after I got shingles and fell when I was walking fast in a store & I stepped on a wet sanitizing wipe and my feet slipped right out from under me. ( Very short legs going 2,7 mph is faster walking than a tall person going more mph). Anyway, for the last 3 days, I have walked for 15 minutes @ 2.3 mph, which is faster than a stroll.
A plan is to at least step on the treadmill every day. Maybe you could join in and we could report weekly or something? I tell myself I will walk at least 15 minutes. By the way, I'm 79 now. I also have a recumbent bike and a rowing machine. I can't read and row though. I think everyone should have a treadmill and if you are only going to walk on it, not run, it doesn't need to be expensive. Pre-owned is fine. I don't ever exercise outdoors because it is too hot, humid, and buggy in the "greater Houston" area.

Yesterday, Thursday, I did my 30 minute walk in the late afternoon. It was a struggle. I really don't have the energy for it except in the mornings. AND I forgot the stretch too. Failure. I should put a reminder sign on the treadmill probably. Getting a kitten was such a mistake.

Friday 8-20 I only walked 25 minutes because it was afternoon and today was a trauma. The kitten took a nap in the carrier. When I noticed where he was, I closed the door since it was Animal Shelter Open hours. I took the kitten back. I feel very sad about it. Bailey is 13 years old and when the kitten got to be 13 I would have been 92 which is highly unlikely. I spent the whole day on the floor in the room with the kitten reading my book and eating a salad, yesterday & earlier today but I was never able to even pet the kitten. He didn't seem too afraid of me but still didn't want to get too close. Anyway the ladies at the shelter commented that he seemed very fearful but he wasn't until we got there. I didn't try to say that.
Saturday: 7 AM, I already did a 21 minute walk and will do another 10 later. I did do my 30 second attempt to touch my toes. DUCKDUCKGO said if I do that stretch 3 times a week, in a month I will be able to touch the floor, Do we believe it? Crystal and I can only reach our ankles at the moment.

If anyone wants to develop a 30 minute walk habit, you could start with 2 15 minute walks, If you don't want to walk at all one day you could say to yourself that you will just walk 15 minutes. That helps me some times. Today I decided to walk 15 minutes before my bath and 15 minutes after. that while reading the Sunday paper. 15 minutes is lots easier than 30. No matter how you do it it will increase your life expectancy and it does use some calories. Yesterday, for the first time, somehow, I forgot my walk. Spoiled my record. And I added the toe touch stretch to my walk habit. They swear if you bend over for 30 seconds 3 times a week, after 4 weeks you will be able to touch your toes. If not you can cheat and spread your feet farther apart.................After having a Fitbit One for many years, It finally occurred to me to put a tissue between it and my skin. So much more comfortable..........................I lived in Louisiana 13 years. Glad I don't live there now with the hurricane on the way. The weather in South Houston seems worse to me than playing golf in Baton Rouge but it may be that I'm just older.

It doesn't get to be daylight here until 7 AM. So it is easy for me to do my walk between 6 AM and 7. I get up early anyway. It is like ...nothing else to do. LOL When it is daylight and the coolest part of the day, I do things outdoors. It is very hot here. It makes my daily walk habit easier.

There is a new study out with researchers calling for a focus on fitness over weight loss for obesity-related health conditions. Exercise is important and helpful no matter what the person weighs and ignoring weight and focusing on fitness reduces health risks of yo-yo dieting. All exercise is valuable no matter how few minutes at one time. So...walk on your treadmill for 5 minutes anytime you can. It is worthwhile.
