Hi all. I have a fat loss goal of 97 pounds. (insert sounds of sobbing and head banging off keyboard). I've been "trying" to lose that weight for so long now I've about given up.
Seven years ago I went on the jenny diet (will never make THAT mistake again) which resulted, after 18 months, in a loss of 58 pounds. I was never so hungry in my whole life and TIRED! I had NO energy at all. I fought for the last 5 years to keep it off but it has almost all crept back on. Then I got my Flex.
For xmas hubby gave me the Aria so between the two I now have to face facts. Sitting on my backside is what's keeping the weight slowly creeping upwards.
I've started back at my local gym on the treadmill. I still haven't reached 10,000 steps in one day yet. The highest I've managed has been about 7500. My daily average when I don't do much is about 2800. So there's a slight improvement.
I also started tracking my food intake on my dashboard. That was a revelation when coupled with how much energy I'd burned during the day. It's one thing to "know" that calories and movement determine your weight. It's a whole other thing to actually see the numbers. Can't hide from THAT truth.
Anyway. I have set my goals and am aiming for 2 pounds fat loss a week. Anyone care to join me?

I'm in too! I just set up my Fitbit. I have struggled for years with weight but have gained about 60 over the last four years. I set up a group called "Together we can do this" which can be found under the Community tab and the groups (I think - new to this too). If you are interested, you can join that group so we can support each other there. Let's see how it goes. Good luck everyone!!

Hello!!
Yes I would love to join you!
I am very new to the fitbit community! I received my Fitbit Force for Christmas. I am about 80 pounds overweight and I too have battled this bulge for such a long time. It started 13 years ago with the birth of my first born....fast forward to my almost 2 month old and I am sad to say I have became comforterable with my weight. It is nothing I am proud of. I really need the support and encouragement. I realize that I can't do this alone. You guys are welcomed to add me as a friend. Let's support each other! 🙂

Hi everyone!! I'm in too, 45 years old, single, 60 lbs to lose (maybe 70, but I'm starting with 60!) got my Flex a week ago and have been doing a lot with it and love it, dropped 2 lbs already and will weigh in tomorrow to see how the Christmas holiday went (I think it went OK!). Nutrisystem about 15 years ago dropped 68 lbs which I gained all back and then some after going off the program (cost prohibitive and sodium intense, so I was worried about long-term effects).
I found that my once significant self-confidence is almost gone, I hate dressing up, and I am single, so I go a lot of places stag and so I feel like I stand out even more... I am an extrovert (or was) but find myself becoming a little more introverted because I'm self-conscious about my weight. This was made most evident a couple weeks ago at a Christmas party when I was asked to come around the table to visit someone else and thought to myself "I don't want to get up and show people how heavy I've become!" I'm sure many of us have similar stories to mine...
I work well alone and can self-motivate but I also love to eat and not exercise! I think a group situation would work well and finding new friends is always a bonus.
I joined "together we can do this!"! Look forward to seeing everyone there! 🙂

Count me in too! I am totally new to this type of thing. I asked my husband for the FitBit for Christmas because I have known I needed to lose weight for at least a year now. My ultimate goal is to lose 50 pounds. I am a mom to 2 boys ages 10 and 4 and work full-time. I belong to a fitness place where I take high intensity classes at least 3 times a week. The classes are similar to CrossFit, but without the Olympic style lifting.
My downfall always seems to be the diet piece of weightloss. I know I need to eat healthier, I just don't. I can't seem to get motivated to do. I don't know what my problem is. I also can't help but to think that the depression medication I take plays a role in the weight gain/lack of weight loss. I have thought about having the doctor take me off it. But not sure that is a good idea. My family will suffer because I lose my temper very easily vs. becoming sad/weepy.
My husband is the most supportive person. He will do whatever it takes to help me achieve my goal. Everything except hire a chef. 🙂
I can offer great motivation to others i just don't follow my own advice. I hope I can find my motivation by joining this community!
GAME ON!

I'm in! You sound like me, except, I've been fighting my weight forever. I lost 25 pounds and literally stalled. I live in Upstate NY and was loving walking outside, and then... winter struck... sitting and eating and watching the weight creep back on. My husband, who is superfit is supportive ans encouraging. He bought me my fit bit for Christmas and I'm going to use it. I'm 44 and have two teenage daughters, life is crazy, but I have to do this!

Hi Nandine,
I'm 66 and have been married to Mr. Skinny for 47 years. This man can eat and eat and never gain a pound. No so much for me. I know exactly how you feel. I'm looking forward to being part of the discussion group. Take care.

Hi everyone!! I set up a group for us in the community groups area called Christmas Wishes for 2014. Why the name? Well I thought that since we all recieved a fitbit for this Christmas then our wish was to become healthier by next Christmas. This group is public but you have to make a request to join. I thought that maybe keeping the group small, under 30 people, we can all develop the support we need from each other as we make this journey together.

Count me in! I just got a "fit one" for christmas and am so excited! Still trying to figure out all that it can do. I've done a lot of diets and realize that what I lack most is exercise.. along with eating too many of the "fast" types of food. Hoping this group and the fit bit will help to keep me motivated!

Okay... I think the problem was when I initially created it, I made it a private group.... I remade the group.... try Christmas Wishes 2014.
Hopefully this will work.

@Suzy wrote:I'd like to join in also. I received my fitbit one about 4 weeks ago. I started with 5,000 steps and now I'm up to 7,250. I need to get my diet under control now. My last blood work showed that I'm close to being diabetic. Trying to lower that carb intake is going to be a challenge for me. I go to Curves and do Zumba, so I'm getting active. Hopefully, we can all motivate each other and get this ugly weight off.
Low carb is really quite easy if you're willing to give up all wheat products. As a little incentive I highly recommend reading Dr. William Davis's "Wheat Belly" and Dr. David Perlmutter's "Grain Brain."
since I quit eating anything with wheat in it (and all other grains) I have a HARD time getting in enough carbs. True story. I'm not a big fruit eater so that makes it even more difficult.
