Single People Tips for budget friendly health & Fitness

Hi there ladies and gents, I'm becoming more and more active thanks to some friendly challenges I have running with my friends on overall step counts, but I want to push it more. I have a lot...A LOT...of weight to shred, but I'm finding that being single, things can get expensive! I find myself in a position where I either buy too much and a ton of food goes to waste, or I am eating left overs all week. As for the fitness side, I have to admit that it's starting to get hot in Phoenix and I need to find something I can do indoors besides surf the couch! My question to every single out there is this...what tips do you have for lessening the cost of shopping for one & any fitness tips for someone who can't afford all the gym memberships and classes?

I freeze a lot - i tend to do a huge cook once a week, then 3-4 days later freeze what I haven't eaten.  Weeks when I don't have several hours to cook, I can always pull dishes out of the freezer.  I stock up on 1 & 2 cup freezer containers when I see them on  sale.
