Anybody else using ketosis? What does it mean when your body is in ketosis and how can you tell if you're in ketosis?

yes, I have hashimotos for over 15 years and take medication every day. research is always advancing thankfully, so yes it is very hard to lose weight with this condition. As for doctors you have to interview them before you settle on one so you know if they understand the disease. Autoimmune diseases can come in two, I happen to have gluten sensitivity issues as well. So long of short I keep to low carb, as grain free as possible. lots of veg, protein with low glycemic fruits, limited dairy ( cheese, greek yogurt mostly ). I have to exercise min 5 days per week ,can not be sedentary. If I stray from this I gain weight rapidly and feel horrible phyisically, unfortunately synthetic synthroid is not a magic bullet that fixes everything. Most people without the disease just don't get it.

I am a low carb coach and would like to use the Surge to track my carbs. Is it possible to do this?

If you start using Fitbit’s Food Plan, it will let you track your macros. Note this is related to your Fitbit account, not to the particular tracker you are using (in fact, you could track your food without using a tracker at all).

Take a look at the Fitbit help site for further assistance and information.

I've done it. Other people have accurately answered your questions, so I won't make you read it again, but I will say that keto isn't an excuse for ignoring calorie counts. For me, it was a bit of a lifesaver while I stuck to it because I can go absolutely nuts on carbs of any and all types. It's bad how much of them I can and want to eat without being satisfied. Going cold turkey and feeling full pretty quickly thanks to fat and protein was really nice. And the /r/keto and /r/xxketo communities on Reddit were very helpful and supportive.
However, I did learn that it's only the people who start off at a much higher weight who are able to "eat as much as they want" of meat, bacon, cheese, etc. and still drop weight. Smaller women and some men do have to count calories and consciously restrict, unfortunately. Especially if you need to stick to 1200 calories to lose, like shorter women with a TDEE around 1400-1500.
