Hello all! I've had my fitbit just over a week now, and have no problem getting my steps in monday to friday, but I just slump on the weekends. I went for a walk and somehow still only logged 5000 steps! Ah! What are your tips for getting steps in on at home days?

When I do errands I park far away where ever I go.
If Im watching TV I get up during commericals and walk around my house.

It's not required to go for the goal daily, listen to your body, if feeling sore.. not feeling up to walk more and needing to rest, allow to rest. Recovery is essential to, a few days of is okay or going easier with exercising if needing more rest.. but staying active a bit.

I find it easy to stand up and walk in place while catching up on TV shows. Killing two birds with one stone. 🙂

Sometimes our bodies need a break in order to recharge. If you make a decent amount of steps during the week, esp if you well exceed 10,000, you could use the weekends to recharge.
Otherwise, are you able to find an activity buddy for the weekends? To go out walking or some other activity? People tend to be more accountable when there are others involved.

so funny how different we all are. on the weekends, I make my step goal by 10AM because its my heavy cardio days (food and drink- cause weekends are fun!) but during the week it takes me till 10PM to get to it and some days I don't make it. Less cardio, desk job, driving kids around etc. I love the suggestions I read here. Here are some things I do during the week to help me- if I am in the office, I will walk to the cafe which is three floors down about .25 miles away just to go. if I am home, I will get up every half hour and tour the house, or mop a floor, bring up or down laundry, etc. Its too cold for me to go outside, so I don't have the benefit of going outside, but once spring hits- I walk the neighborhood constantly.

LOL- I am on the floor crying laughing. -30- are you kidding!!! 20 minutes! I wouldn't leave my house. I would be sitting in a frying pan on top of my stove. I was referencing the 30s and 40s as too cold for me. Who am I kidding- anything below 65 makes me shiver and angry. You must be from Canada??? Winter sucks in ALL ways.

I do live in Canada, yes. I don't actually mind most things about winter - it's so pretty, and I love winter accesories (scarves, hats, gloves, coats, sweaters). But not so good for walking, even parking further away isn't really an option, because navigating the buggy through the snow is quite difficult if I have more than a few things. Maybe I should just go and mall walk. 65F is 18C... summer weather 😛 I'm thinking I might need to invest in a treadmill.

I go for a parkrun (www.parkrun.com) near where I live on the weekend.
This is a weekly 5k walk/jog/run on a Saturday morning. They run events all over the world & it's a great thing to get involved in. It helps me get about 5k steps in
If you enjoy a walk/jog & there is an event near you then I would definitely recommend it, it's helped me in my health/weight loss goals & the event creates a great community atmosphere.

I have the same problem - I get lazy on the weekends. I travel a lot for work and there is a gym directly across from the hotel where I'm currently working, so every morning I'm up at 5. I have 10k before I even leave for work. I fly home on Thursday night and Friday - Sunday I find it hard to get in the steps. I have a lot of things to do to get ready to fly out on Sunday evening.
For me, it's just laziness. The weather has been bad and I have a lot of excuses. I keep saying I'm going to grab one of my backpacks and go for a hike, but I never do. I need to have the same disipline I do during the week.
