Still figuring it out.

ANSWERED

Hello everyone,

I am still in my learning curve stage with my fitbit flex but loving it.  I wear it 24/7 to track my steps.  I logged a few days of food to test it out and had some issues but will start fresh today.  Does anyone have any hints/tips on logging?  I don't have a smartphone so I sync in morning and sometime before bed.  I would prefer to only use this software so I am not doubling up on logging.  (Use to use loseit and loved it.). Lokking for motivation.

Thanks,

Amy

Lose It syncs with fitbit.  You only have to log your food there and fitbit will adjust the calories in Lose It.  You can also use myfitnesspal (mfp) to log your food which is what I am doing now (I used to use Lose It but mfp has a much better food database).  I log my food and exercise in mfp which is linked with fitbit, I wear a heartrate monitor when I do cardio which is tracked by digifit which syncs to mfp.

To sum it up.  I only log my food once, log my excercise once.  I eat the calories that are provided in mfp which are adjusted by fitbit.

Hi Amy,

My best advice is don't get to hung up on the numbers.  There are those that believe if you don't get the calorie count exactly right that somehow you are cheating.  I am not one of those people.  When searching the database to log food that you have eaten start with the base food, and then add the type of meal to your search (i.e Chicken, roasted or Rib Eye, grilled) you will quickly get the idea of how to find your meals and just be reasonable.

If you don't see the food you are looking for add it - and it will be there for you the next time.  When I am searching for food I usually go with what I see and kind of average out the calories.  I started my journey in December of last year and so far have lost 40 lbs so far.  The process I use is hitting my step goal each day 10K and logging my food and strive for a 1K calorie deficit.

Thank you and I agree!  I'm not to pressed on being dead on but want to track food just for my own knowledge.  My big focus is on being more active.  I have a desk job and drive an hour each way.  So I need to move more.

Hi,

I'm new to this generation of FitBit and to the dashboards, etc.  I've been logging food off and on at MyFitnessPal, but only intermittently.  I've challenged myself to go the whole way with FitBit - steps, activities, sleep and every bite of food.  In some ways, I'm finding FitBit food logging a little easier - it doesn't have the range of MyFitnessPal (yet), but doesn't make me have all the nutritional values that MFP does - I can simply look something up online (like the United Airline Tapas box I recently ate on a flight), and plug in the calories.  I agree it's better not to get tood obsessive about exact calories - I'm thinking accountability for tracking consistently is the first hurdle - at least it is for me.

One of the great things about Myfitnesspal is that you can set it up to sync with your Fitbit food log - you don't get the details transferred but I don't let that bother me. If it isn't on Fitbit I look for it on MFP to save myself the hassle of entering it manually on the FB. Works for me.

Good luck

Craig
