Hi! I just started a week long detox which should curbs those sugar cravings! It entails eating all fruits and vegetables! Usually after day 3 the craving for sugar just dissolves! I've done it twice before and it works! Let me know if you'd like more info on it!

Hi Jogger - it is exactly that - a 5-7 day detox of mostly fruits and veggies! They recommend starting out the day with a cup of warm lemon water (which I can't stand!) but it's suppose to help detox your liver and cleanse your bowels! Raw veggies are better than cooked, but I have made a garden veggie soup that is really good! Limit yourself to 3 fruits a day due to the sugar content. They recommend also drinking herbal tea at every meal...and getting at least 8 glasses of water...be it tea or water.
First 2-3 days you'll feel fatigued and may get headaches...should feel more energized after. If you workout, hold back to just walking or yoga (light activities) since you're not getting any protein in. I'm down 2.4lbs in 2 days and I feel less bloated. Just hungry mainly at night. Hope that helped!

Great site to learn about sugar addiction and how to kick it (without detoxes - fruit = fructose, and you won't kick the sugar habit eating that!) http://eatingacademy.com/
Great blog for sweet treat make overs - recipes that don't use artificial sweeteners or fructose / sucrose (sugar). Recipes like copy cat thin mints, copy cat reeses easter eggs, copy cat hostess cup cakes. You get the idea!
p.s. everyone is different, but for me after one week I was able to abstain easily, and after two weeks I had no interest in chocolate, in bread, or even mashed potatoes. I still crave something sweet like a brownie or cake sometimes, which is why I LOVE that blogger I linked to above! Good Luck!!!

This so reminds me of when I started the low card diet, my nutrionist started me on this to get me off the prepared foods and the chemicals they use. This started on a Tuesday, no cards or sugar of any kind except Stevia, no grains, it was HORRIBLE!!! I had no energy at all, I was given a vitamin B injection but that didn't help but on that Saturday all of a sudden I realized I had pep in my step, it was like a new me and from that point on, no more headaches or dragging. I did it for 5 mos and then fell off the wagin but I still kept some of the ideas. I still use Truvia, I did go back to using honey, not much just when I make my Almond fudge, I use Agava nector sometimes in my tea, I try to cut back on the carbs as much as possible so it did still help me.

At the beginning of your new healthy lifestyle try to have just one sweet thing a day. It'll make you not feel as though you are depriving yourself.
Then you can change it for healthier options like (my personal favourite) 2 frozen bananas plus some peanut butter and sugar free chocolate powder blended = awesome low calorie ice cream!
Never deprive yourself!

@CaptainKris - that sounds mighty tasty - especially as the weather warms up around here

I understand - I have a sweet tooth too.
This is how I solve the problem
1. Jello (very low calorie)
2. Gum
3. Self control
Perhaps what you can do is reward yourself every once in awhile with your favorite guilty pleasure. Too much denial is bad for a diet. My guilty pleasure is Doritos. What I do is put them in a baggie (10 chips) and give myself an allotment of Doritos. That way, I am having some of the bad stuff without feeling too deprived.
Good Luck
