Our Challenge this time has 31 days so we can set realistic goals for 4 weeks of weight loss or maintenance. Come and share your stories, successes, struggles and what you are learning on your journey to a healthier life.
OSW= 153 Feb 2015
CSW= 149.3 Today
GW = 145 12/25
UGW= 135 and maintain it
OSW= Original starting weight when began with Fitbit
CSW= Current starting weight
GW= Goal weight for this challenge ending on 12/25
UGW=Ultimate goal weight.
Okay we going together toward healthier bodies and minds. Sadly holidays have been commercialized to focus on consumption including lots of sugar, empty carbs and calories. We can make much healthier choices since we are not mindless puppets of the greedy manufacturers.
Let's give ourselves and others the gift of healthier food and attitudes.
All the very best on this Thanksgiving Day.
Anyone want to share a few things that they are thankful for to inspire us?
I'm thankful for my home to keep me sheltered from the storms.
I'm grateful for my work teaching exercise and health to older adults and it
helps me, too.
I'm grateful for still being able to dance.
I'm thankful for my son and his kids just 1 hour away.
I'm grateful for my sister and brother across the country that I can call.
I'm grateful for my garden with some organic veggies and fruit.
I'm thankful for the good nutrition that my late momma taught me to eat.
I'm thankful for my Fitbit friends that are so kind and supportive.
We are doing this one day at a time and we can reach our healthy goals!
Hugs to all our fierce challengers,
Barbara G

@_Lilac_- this is where we all tell you to take it easy with your new treadmill. I overdid the rowing machine on one of the first days I had it and had a hard time walking the next morning. It's not a race, but about building better habits. If your machine has an incline do most of your initial walking on an incline of 1 - it seems to be closer to walking outside.

I'm not surprised to have not lost more this week. I've had multiple meals out and I'm now into the full cookie ball making swing. I do my best not to pick at what I'm making, but I know I do some. So for the moment I'm looking at maintaining around where I am until Christmas (whichever meal I have with my mother) and then I'm going back to calorie counting for a little while. I was doing well with planning, not counting, but too many other meals made it difficult to keep track (even mentally).

@A_Lurker Not sure I'll be able to get on the treadmill any time soon. The overdoing it was yesterday. My feet are up and I'm resting. I promise I'll not go crazy with it when I start. I learned a big lesson last night.

@_Lilac_- I think for any dieters, but especially for those of us with a lot to lose, burnout is a definite concern. We all approach weight loss and/or fitness improvements with great enthusiasm. If we see the effects we expect right away it is encouraging. If/when the weight loss slows or we overdo it and we hurt it would be far easier to stop, just for a while. I don't believe that you're one of those people, and anyone experiencing true pain or fatigue should do something about it. Pain means rest (24-48 hrs) and nobody truly agrees on the other items. Some will suggest ice, compression, elevation - others will suggest some movement a slightly better option. I know years ago when I fell on the ice (and needed to go to work) I just picked myself up and went. I maybe didn't move as much that day but considering how hard I went down I didn't take very long to recover.
So, some reading for you: http://www.thesportsphysiotherapist.com/rice-or-meat-protocol-for-acute-ligament-sprain-treatment/

@A_Lurker Now, why would I put rice or meat on my sore foot??
Haha! Just kidding. I read the article. My foot is better than it was earlier. It seems to be improving the more I shuffle around. It's the same kind of pain I'd get when I first started walking. That went away pretty quickly. Yesterday I simply walked double what I normally do so it was a shock to my system. I'm not afraid of permanent damage. I have to be careful. Thanks for the article!

I haven't actually posted my weight since this thread started, mostly because it's not going anywhere much. But slowly, ounce by ounce I'm going back down after my "election gain". We're getting the really cold weather now which does make it harder to get my butt out the door. I keep getting to the gym later and later. It's nice that so many stores are open late this time of year, though. After my gym closed on Friday I went to the mall to finish my walking. Love that!

I too was in a weight loss lull. I was not doing anything differently, but just seemed to not lose anything. I have no excuse for lack of walking, as I live in Arizona and most days in the valley are pleasant. Even when a little cold, it's not the kind of cold that would prevent walking.
I haven't posted my weight since early November. I was gone that whole month to help my mother recover. I had just begun the LCHF diet and was following it pretty close. Only thing, I didn't lose any weight for the first 3 weeks. Now that I am back home, I discovered that i had lost 5 pounds. I had crept up to 166 and am now 161. Don't know if it was the change in eating, or all the work I did while there. Anyway, am glad to be back into a routine again. I'm sticking to this way of eating for a while since I don't seem to get very hungry on it. Shouldn't have to return to my mom's for a couple months. Hopefully the weight will start moving downward again. We'll see, I guess. I'm glad to be back reading all the posts. I find them motivating.

@Glenda This has been brought to my attention many times, especially since my late husband had briefly used this method to control pain while he was ill with cancer. Medical permission is available here and the newest government has vowed to legalize marijuana altogether. It's not something that interests me, personnally. I've been on a bunch of different epilepsy meds, cocktails, etc and only one seems to 'help'. I'm sick of it all, really. I'm sick of pills!
Because I knew I was going to have a few drinks the other night I didn't take my meds (contra-indicated) and now I was back to having some mild seizures over this last night. Just a small delay sets me off. I consume alcohol so rarely (once or twice a year in very small amounts) that I thought it wouldn't be an issue. I'm still recovering from my injured foot two days later after thinking I was superwoman or something!
I'm heading to the pool this morning for weightless aerobics then we get another snowstorm today. Schools are already closed in preparation. Glad I have the treadmill so I can still get in my activity.

Well it has been what seemed like a long crazy super hectic weekend. I have always (and still do) look forward to the weekends just to rest from work. BUT the weekends are sop much harder on me weight wise. I do not do near as well over the weekend as I do during the week. I had my grandson's birthday party Saturday. I didn't really do bad, I only had one hotdog and 2 very small bites of the cake. (just the cool whip off the top...lol) ( I love cool whip frosting) anyhow, it was already a struggling day for me. Sunday we generally go out to lunch after church.. I didn't do so well there, Had ribs.. maybe a few to many.. :-(, then last night we went to a Christmas play that a friend of ours son was in and they had snacks everywhere... I WAS BAD... I need this holiday to be over... Did I mention sweets is my major weakness.... 😞
I didn't gain any weight I don't think, but I sure don't think I lost any.... Tomorrow will tell.
I used to love this time of year so much, but the more commercialized it gets the less I like it. But to be honest, I really don't know why this week has been such a struggle for me. It has been a struggle in everything this past week/weekend. Just so much going on with work, family and then you add the holidays in and it sometimes is just too much. I won't whine too much...lol. Hope everyone has a wonderful Monday and rest of the week. I will check in tomorrow with my official weight.

I went on the new treadmill for 7 min last night. When I felt the first twinge in my foot I stopped. I woke up today without any pain at all while walking. Yay. It was SOOOO bad yesterday. I went to the pool and the funny thing is, my achilles hurts IN THE POOL. Why??? No gravity, no strain, but it hurts? Anyway, it didn't hurt on the way home. I'm going to have a nap since I was up so much in the night and then I'll use my treadmill for another 4000 steps to make my 10000 for the day.
"Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow" It has begun!

checking in:
still holding at 186
This week I even started to run on the treadmill, and increased the incline. I got my heart rate up higher and for longer. Still eating well. You'd think this increase in activity over the past few months would lead to at least one pound lost.
Well, at least I can do more than I used to, even before I was laid up.
I wish I could say it's all muscle. But, well, I looked in the mirror - that is not muscle.

I walked on my treadmill tonight for 24 minutes. I walked at a 2.8 mile per hour pace and my fitbit recorded only 1950 steps. UGH. I think it's because I would forget to swing my arm with my walking and held onto the handle. I need to have stability, so I suppose I'll have to hold on with my right hand and let my left swing a bit to register my steps.
I felt good, my foot doesn't hurt. My dogs are still unsure of the treadmill. I wish I could train them to use it! Especially my larger dog. He has lots of energy.
I kinda missed lunch today. I had breakfast around 11am after I got home from the pool and then I had that nap this afternoon and didn't have supper til 6ish. I am growing hungry again (it's after 10pm now) so maybe I'll have fruit or cheese. I'm way under my daily caloric goal. Sometimes I just can't balance and get myself on a regular schedule!
Have a good night all and a great weekly weigh-in as well as off-scale successes.

@_Lilac_- I tuck my Charge 2 into my bra a lot in the plant (just above the band). I mainly do that so it still picks up my HR but isn't visible. I've just got into the habit of wearing that way on the treadmill as well. Like you, I need the balance of the handles at times. As long as it's still picking up your heart rate you can play around with position.
