Well thankfully I have pretty good insurance, everything is paid for after I spend $1000 out of pocket. So all of it is completely covered.

But I am not considered obese, and I do not snore. But there is such thing as sleep apnea that does not involve snoring, which I may have. I won't know for sure until Next week for the sleep study, but fitbit states I only get 3 hours of sleep a night out of 8 so I presume I do have a problem.

I also do not get "morning wood", which means I barely reach the third stage of REM which "tests" out bodily systems such as making you aroused and paralysing you for deep restorative sleep. I only get that maybe once a week, so I know I have some type of sleeping issue.

Part of me is hoping I have sleep apnea, because I could finally get rest. But at the same time, I am not looking forward to being attached to a machine.

Hi

The sleep study was easy, the equipment is not obstructive and a night in the hospital is a break from the norm, they will put short pipes up your nose which sit just at the opening to the nostrils, on your finger their will be a heart rate monitor and this hooks up to small box on your chest fitted with an elasticated band, you should get a room to yourself as it is a sleep study, the equipment was not uncomfortable and i got to sleep ok, maybe take a tablet or a book and a non sugary snack plus a drink because for my study i had to be at the hospital for 1900 because reception amidnistration closes at 1930 and then the study lady came to my room at 2100, and then getting to sleep at my normal time then was 2300.

Look on the subject of sleeping with the mask and sharing a bed with a partner my wife laughed at first because it does look wierd, off course it does, but after night one it has become a normal thing for me to do every night.   It took me about 2 nights to get used to the face mask mine is a full face mask, if you lay on your side you have to position your head at the far ends of your pillow so you don't move the mask off your mouth and nose, i have a Resmed S9 machine which auto adjusts the air pressure, it is very quiet, almost unoticeable.

And finally if you partner loves you when you are awake what difference does it make when you are asleep.   I wouldn't worry too much the negatives is sleeping with a machine is unnatural the pros far outway the cons 10-1 with the likes of improved sleep, more energy, less moody, better circulation, less figiting in bed etc...

Good luck.

I had a stufy done and was waking 85 times an hour and never hitting REM sleep. If you get the CPAP with the nose pillows mask it is pretty small. It has made a significant impact for me. You could at least try the study and see what they tell you

Walking, walking, walking, if you've got no cash for a gym membership, are lucky enough to have outdoor areas available and own shoes then walking is free!

Well written, as always.  You're so right about changing our mindset of what constitutes "exercise".  Too many of us remember the old "no pain, no gain" mantra and push ourselves to the point that it's no longer enjoyable.  That being said, here in N. America we've been in the deep freeze of winter and the gym is our primary outlet for exercise.  Come spring we'l be able to hit the parks, the trails, and the beaches like you.

Thank you RonnieP, I am looking forward to winter here, no wind, temps down to 14 degrees Celsius, no tourists...
