The Dreaded Plateau

About 2 months ago, I finally stopped making excuses and started exercising and eating better. I keep track of calories, hit (or exceed) my daily 10,000 step goal, and have started running and lifting weights 2-3 times a week. Things were progressing quite well for those two months to the point where I had dropped 20 pounds, halfway to a modest 40 pound goal. I cheered with victory ten days ago at the halfway point, and I've remained at that halfway point with no downward progress.

 

I still maintain what fitbit is telling me as a caloric deficit, I still reach or exceed my steps and activity goals, but nothing is going away. Do I need to adjust?

Change your routine.  I hit my plateau and took some changes to get some movement again.  Started doing some bike work, hit the hills with the dogs, amd started some time on the rowing machine.  Regained lossing pounds and started to reintroduce those things I was doing before after a week or two.  Still doing a variety of exercises, just not the same thing over and over.

You probobly would benefit from a cardio weghtlifting class, burns away   anything you don't desire. I go to the YMCA's  at Johnstown YMCA for this.,. class What YMCa are you near???

10 days isn't a plateau, weight loss isn't linear.

 

Stay the course, keep doing what you are doing. Just confirm your intensity level is making up for moving less weight.

 

Like squats - you lost 20 lbs - did weight on the bar go up 20 lbs or better?

If not - you lost strength then.

 

Has pace on the treadmill been the same with 20 lbs less - but feels just as hard?

You lost cardio fitness then.

 

In which case, and even if not those things, but you should always have a reasonable deficit for the amount to lose.

 

What was reasonable with 40 lbs to lose is not reasonable with only 20 lbs to lose.

 

I'm betting you need to back off the deficit to 1 lb (500 cal) weekly until you get to 10 lbs, then 1/2 lb weekly.

 

Yes, in essence you need to eat more than current level.
