Hey all! Never done this before, but also never been successful at losing weight. Been told that online support can really help, so here goes. With my birthday quickly approaching, I don't want to put it off any longer.
I've retired early from an exec. admin. position, and attend university during the year (one course at a time), so sedentary is my life. I have never been a physically active person. Intellectually I know all the stuff I need to do, but putting it into practice is the trouble.
I've subscribed to a meal planning service (they send me meal plans for the week, with recipes), so that I don't have to think about what to make when. I am a newly converted vegetarian, so am hoping this will help too. My girlfriend said "you only eat vegetables, why aren't you skinny?" I said "sadly, pasta isn't a vegetable!" I am a carboholic, no question!! 🙂
I am going to post my progress here daily to keep myself accountable - if you have any suggestions, words of advice or support, or would like me to support you too, please let me know!!!

Welcome to the forums!
Good luck! I'm sure you will do fine. Look forward to seeing your progress!
As far as being active. You need to find something you enjoy doing so you stick with it.

Welcome @debidoodle -- the meal planning service sounds like a great idea. I'm assuming that you give them a list of the kinds of things you generally like, your food restrictions, and then they send meal plans, recipes and shopping lists. The big plus about meal planning, is that if you stick to the plan, you don't have to worry about the calories, because that is already figured out.
If, after a few weeks, you don't see any movement on the scale, just sub in more veggies for pasta/bread/starch/grains. Try to increase fiber if you can (beans + whole grains + more veggies) because that is more filling, and protein (beans again, peas, etc.) as that also helps with hunger and of course helps you maintain muscle while you lose fat. Here is a link for protein sources for vegetarians and vegans.
Check in every couple of week and let us know how is going.
