Twelve Days of Christmas Challenge

December 10

I'm doing a Twelve Days of Christmas Challenge at my gym and thought it would be fun to share with the community.

It is a cumulative challenge.  Here is how it works.  On the First Day of Christmas, instead of a Partridge in a Pear Tree,  I'll give you an exercise to do.  Not too hard.  On the second day of Christmas, instead of a Partridge in a Pear Tree and Two Turtle Doves, I will give the first exercise, and a second.  On the third day, three exercises, and so on.

If you miss a day, or see this late and still want to join, you can just double or triple up the missed days with the current day.  For example, if you don't join until day three.  You would do the day one exercise, then the day two exercises, and then the day three exercises all on day three. (You might need to get to a gym for some of these, but a gym isn't required; if a particular exercise is too hard or you don't have available equipment you can substitute something similar, but part of the fun is trying to do them all).

The first day of Christmas is tomorrow, December 11, which is when I will give you the first exercise.  Post here when you finish each day. Lets see how many people we can get on board to sweat a little (just a little) during the last month of 2017!

On the Seventh Day of Christmas @Baltoscott gave to me, a one minute planktwo pull-ups (assisted or regular), and three county blocks (0.5 mile on treadmill or walking about), four man makers, five pistol squats (each leg), six fitbit floors (or Step Mill/Stair Master), and seven overhead squats.

If using a 45 lb seven foot olympic barbell for your overhead squats seems a bit much, try a broom, or something similar.  Go for a wide grip.

Todays all done. The manmakers are getting better (I think!). I lke my table pull ups and the plank is good. Squats are good as long as I dont go too low. The walking and the stairs are easy. Now to look up tomorrow's curtsy lunges.

8 Lunges: DONE, since I know how to do the cheerleading lunges, can I do those instead?  I come from a family of cheerleaders, so it comes with the territory!  I've been to all the games, practices, competitions, you name it.  I even help my cousin fine-tune her routines, and no I was never a cheerleader (my sister was).  I can even still do some of the routines in my sleep!

Umm me neither. Trying to think of an alternative (so far failing). Though I guess any heavy object would do but youd want to be outside when it comes to slamming it down.

But Ive done all of todays exercises. I liked the curtsy lunges!

I did mine with a heavy book....wasn't able to slam it down due to being on the 2nd floor, but hey, it worked!

All my other workouts are done, I'm just waiting for the 6 floors and Country Blocks to come in.  But I'm running up and down stairs all day long (yesterday alone I did 20 flights of stairs), so that shouldn't be a problem.

EDIT: As predicted, my 6 Floors and Country Blocks are all done, so Day 7 is in the books!

@NellyG @DramaQueenDiva — day nine came up for me last week and I used a big soft 18 lb medicine ball at the gym.  Kind of like a bag of sand or mulch.  No bounce.  Then the next day I used a 20 lb medicine ball I have at home that kind of looks like a basketball.  Bounces like one too, right on up and smaked me in the chin.  No serious injury lol 😝

Any big heavy thing that won’t expload when you throw it down should be fine — but not your spouse!

On the Tenth Day of Christmas @Baltoscott gave to me, a one minute planktwo pull-ups (assisted or regular), three county blocks (0.5 mile on treadmill or walking about), four man makersfive pistol squats (each leg), six fitbit floors (or Step Mill/Stair Master), seven overhead squats, eight curtsey lunges, nine  medicine ball slams and ten hundred (1000) meters on the rower.

If you don't have access to a rower (those used to be a lot more popular, didn't they?), but can get on other aerobic machines, a 1000 meters on an elliptical that you use your hands/arms on seems better than a treadmill, but if you don't have access to machines at all, add a mile to your 3 county blocks.

Ok done todays (except the pull ups - waiting till my husband goes to bed as he'd laugh at me if he saw me under the kitchen table!🤣🤣). I used a 5kg hand weight for the slams (but held onto it rather than let it go lol). No machines here so I'll be walking extra. But I do that anyway so that will be easy!

In the words of one of my fav-o-rite actors, 'Alright, alright, alright'!  I confess, I went AWOL again yesterday. Pre-Christmas things to get DONE, and visited a friend in hospital. But, today, I'm back. It took me awhile to find the appropriate 'substitute' for a medicine ball {though I was tempted to ask if you meant to write 'Medicine Bottle' @Baltoscott}. Though it lacks in weight, it CAN be slammed down without disturbing the dancing classes downstairs {Wednesday afternoon being THE most active one in the week 'cause most Swiss kids have this afternoon free - yes, every week}.  I'll be joining @NellyG  with adding an additional mile to my walk today. Cheers!
