Using MFP as well calorie question

Okay I have been using MFP prior to starting with fit bit. My daily calorie goal for 2lb loss is 1390. I never ate back exercise calories prior to using my fit bit due to doubts that calorie burn was accurate. Since starting with fit bit a little confused. Both are set at sedentary and I do not manually add exercise. I have MFP set to negative calorie adjustment as well. I know that weight loss is a CI/CO equation but should I go by my net calorie intake or total calorie intake to determine if I am eating enough to create a deficit to continue to lose weight. Example

Wen. Net calorie intake MFP: 1068  Total Calorie intake:1501

Thurs.  Net calorie intake MFP: 697    Total Calorie intake: 1593

I had been losing on average 2.5-3lbs a week prior to Labor Day  (when I purchased fit bit) and  I have been moving more since I purchased as my sciatica will allow. Just concerned not eating e Tnough calories and really confused about how much I should eat. I just don't want to create such a large deficit that I lose more muscle mass than I have to. I liked how I was losing previously and would like to continue to lose at a steady pace but not to fast. Thanks for your help. Just trying to learn how to use both functions to helpl me reach a healthy weight the correct way.

I have been having the same problem. I really like MFP for the calorie counting, and use FB for the excercise. They are supposed to link up together some how, but not really sure how. I used to be able to synch them but not now.

Let me know how it goes.

I linked it using the MFP App. download. I just wasn't sure how many calories I should be eating with extra exercise. Maybe if you try reinstalling the app through MFP it will help resync them. Good luck. I really love the two together. I am becoming obsessed with the fitbit. I am so obsessed now everyone in my family except my son has a fit bit since we all need to become more active and all of us could lose from 10 to in my case more than a hundred pounds. It was so funny my soon to be 14yr old asked for hers as a birthday gift. Hubs asked for his as a early birthday gift as well.

I have MFP set to negative calorie adjustment as well.

That may be an issue. Fitbit shows you a "fuel" bar by taking into account the calories eaten (what you have logged into MFP) and calories burnt (what Fitbit sees through your BMR and activity). By the end of the day, the fuel bar will show you your caloric deficit and, theoretically, that would be the pace you at which you lose weight.

However, if you also set a caloric deficit on MFP (say 200 cal), one device will tell you you are 600 cal under while a the other will say you are 400 cal under. It's the same data in the end but Fitbit and MFP only sync for food and weight logging, not goals. Decide which app you prefer to look at and just keep consistent. A lot of people don't like the fuel bar because it is constantly changing (ie as you burn calories throughout the day) and if you like logging all of your food for the day at once, it will show you "over budget" all day until you hit that deficit.

Hope this helps,
