I am a male and I have been using the Fitbit for about 10 days now. I started at 180 lbs and my goal is 152 lbs. The system is really simple and brilliant. It is a matter of calories in vs. calories burned. If you eat more than you burn, you will gain, if you burn more than you eat, you will lose. If you eat and burn about the same amount of calories, you will remain stable. A few things I like about the Fitbit system:
1) It requires you to log in what you eat. I thought that might be a pain, but it is really not bad. And by logging in what you eat, you begin to realize why you have not been able to lose weight previously.
2) The next thing that I like about Fitbit is that when you exercise, you can then eat more that day if you wish.
3) I ride a bike for exercise but I had no idea how many calories were burned by riding my bike. Now I know that if I ride for 90 minutes, I will burn about 400-500 calories. That makes me think...do I want to "trade" that bike ride for just a donut? So that has made me think more about what I eat.
4) If find that I can eat ANYTHING that I want. But I cannot eat EVERYTHING that I want. That is a huge difference. If I want ice cream, I can have it, but I need to either balance that out with more walking or other exercise or else, cut out other foods for that day. Again, I can make an ingtelligent decision with Fitbit's help.
I've lost a solid 6 pounds in the last 10 days or so. It has not been a steady loss. Every few days I gain a bit, but then I get back on track and the trend keeps doing down.
My goal is to lose only 1/2 pound each week. So far, I am way ahead but I also know that weight loss comes faster at first, then slower later on.
So is is really pretty simple: By knowing what you are eating and what calories are consumed as you go along and then combine that with the calories burned, weight loss is really a matter of mathematics.
So far, I love the Fitbit system!

Good luck to you! Fitbit has helped many people - including myself - 45 pounds and counting - the best thing I ever bought - truly!

What a wonderful post! I have to admit, my weight loss isn't quite going swimmingly well as yours, however I am doing exercise and not eating badly. I should not weigh myself in the evenings either as it does not help! I should be losing weight... but I'm not. Perhaps I need to look at my progress and see what has happened?!

I've been using MyFitnessPal (a free app) to track my food because it works so well with Fitbit. I have had my Fitbit for about 2 1/2 months and love the feedback I get from it. It makes it easier for me to stay on track when I can readily see how many steps I've taken and how many calories I've used. I recommend Fitbit to everyone I know.
