Very new to this. Not sure how to set my goals properly

I didnt make my profile public,  but would like some advice.  I am a woman over 50 with about 20 lbs to lose.  I dont exercise at all but I am trying to hit the 10K steps at least and slowly become more active.   I dont understand the dashboard in terms of deficit calories vs what I should eat in food.  If I see there is a deficit because I burned more calories than I ate,  should that be at 500 deficit per day for me to lose weight?
