Weekly Weigh In 2023

For 2023, I am weighing myself daily and will log my moving average every Monday for accountability and support. Please feel free to join in.

My goal is drop about 1/2 lb a week until I get down to 160-165 lbs.

Up a pound over the Christmas holiday, but no gain over the past week. I’m doing a dry January and counting calories for the month.

Down 0.9 lbs since last week. Now, if I can just turn that into a trend. 🤨.

Well, I've been sick for about a week and not eating a lot and my weight is down about 2 pounds. Not the best way to lose weight!

But, I've been feeling better over the past couple of days, and my appetite and movement improving, so the next week should be interesting.

Hi, glad you're feeling better. I have to watch my weight and count carbs and exercise. It's not easy type 1 diabetic.

Thanks @FitbitUser416. No setbacks so far and just finished a good 2 mile walk and feel great.

I think we all face challenges trying to lose weight. Paying attention helps, which is why I weigh in every day (and focus on weekly averages to measure ‘true’ weight), but even with that I wound up with a steady increase last year. Back to tracking what I eat to look for little changes for cutting back.

My daily weigh-ins were pretty steady over the past week, and drove down my moving average reported here. Feeling better after a bout with Covid, my steps and exercise should go up this week. Will need to focus on not eating more to offset.

I love this idea of you posting your weekly weigh ins and the reasons you may have gone up or down. Very cool. Thanks for sharing. I'm cheering you on!

Glad you feel better and are starting to see some results. It can be very frustrating until the numbers start matching what you feel you are putting in. Keep it up!

My moving average is down about half a pound this week, though if you look at my daily weigh-ins you'll see that they are a bit higher than the prior week. That's the math of moving averages. Trendweight (link in my signature) looks back about a month in an effort to weed out the fluctuation we ALL have when weighing in daily, though recent weigh-ins count more in the calculation. Last week I was still recovering from COVID and I was relatively dehydrated which meant bigger drops in daily weigh-ins. This week was more 'normal state' for me, and I was probably better hydrated. If I were just looking at those two weeks in isolation my moving average would have actually gone up, but the moving average went down because weigh-ins for both weeks were lower than prior weeks.

I've been logging my food on MyFitnessPal since Jan. 1, and mostly I think I'm doing a pretty good job. Logging really helps me focus on what I'm eating. But I slipped up this morning. One way to get good results when you log food is to restrict when you eat, so you can build in time to do the logging right when you eat the meal. It also helps if you eat a lot of the same foods so you don't have to keep looking up new stuff and if you make your own food so you know what is in it. My pattern is to eat 4 times a day, breakfast, lunch, afternoon meal, and dinner. But today, after getting back from the dentist, I realized I grabbed six or seven peanuts from this huge can I have in the dining room--without even thinking about it (until I did). So I logged the six peanuts which comes to about 35-40 calories. Not a lot of calories, if planned, but if I do that 4 or 5 times a day without noticing, it would really add up! So I'm bagging the peauts and putting them in the basement freezer. If I decide to get more, I want to go through some hoops to make sure I log them.Should NOT be in easy reachShould NOT be in easy reach

Those nuts!! I hear that. I used to allow myself a spoonful of peanut butter when I was dieting, but it's like 240 calories hahaha. Needless to say it is not on the okay list. I do keep a tin of mixed nuts, but I do the same -- very measured and very intentional. I know it's probably not as rewarding when it's not multiple pounds dropping, but that's why I liked how you were looking at the whole average so you could see you were making progress, regardless if the "number" didn't seem to be HUGE. The long game. I got my fitbit a few days early delivered to my porch. So, I'm figuring out all the settings and getting familiar with the app on my phone and computer. Looks like not too much has changed over the years, but seems like the community may not be as active? Do people still do competitions?

@Mrs.GB - I’ll be happy with half pound weekly losses if I can keep that up. I do get a charge when it comes off faster, but faster usually means I’m doing something unsustainable. Better to start working on the habits that will keep it off while I am losing.

Up 1/5 pound this week. Probably due to a few too many beers over the weekend, especially with family during the Superbowl yesterday. Exciting game.

Last week I was up about 1/4 pound, but this week I'm down about 1/2 pound, so the trend is still down. In general, I felt on track with my diet goals. My anniversary was Valentine's Day. We usually don't drink mid-week, but we had a couple of glasses of good red wine with dinner. I slipped a bit on food tracking over the weekend, though. Missed tracking lunch and dinner on Saturday and dinner on Sunday. I tend to slip on tracking, even when focused like I am now, if I go out (Saturday lunch was tacos at a brewery), or if meal-time slips (Sunday errands got in the way of dinner). But it wasn't too bad. There were three tacos in the Saturday lunch, and I managed to bring one of them home for dinner. And only one beer at the brewery! Another Saturday plus for me and the wife was some mileage on a rail trail near the brewery.

Hikers and two-wheelers usually smile and get out of my way. Didn't see any horses, but I'll definitely move to the side if I do!

HmmmHmmm

Up a bit this week. A few too many beers last week while college basketball in the run up to March Madness. That may be a challenge this coming week too as I’m already planning on watching most of the 12+ hours of tournament play each of the next 4 days. I’ll definitely need to take walking breaks throughout the day to stay away from the fridge.

Hi @maryone. As far as timing goes, my pattern is 4 meals a day. Usually breakfast a bit later 7:30. Otherwise similar to your husband’s 3 meals but with ‘lunch’ at about noon, and I call the third meal a ‘snack.’ The spacing seems to keep me from feeling too hungry between meals so I avoid junk food between meals. Sometimes (today) I hold off on breakfast until after my commute to work. I just pack it and eat at my desk. Part of my commute is a bike ride and that seems to suppress hunger a bit in the morning, but it may just be habit.

Ouch. The first week of March Madness involved a lot of losing in my basketball pool, but I offset those loses by adding a half pound to moving average. I guess that's should be a surprise with continuous eating and drinking beer while yelling at all the bad calls the refs made against my teams. 😤

The four days of the Sweet 16 start at 6:30 pm on Thursday, and there will only be 4 teams left come Sunday. I'll still enjoy the games and a few beers, but I don't think quite as much as I did last week.

Skipping a meal is not going to sabotage weight loss as long as the other meals are not carb heavy.  In fact, there is more and more evidence that fasting longer between meals is beneficial to the body to help burn fat.  Fasting does not have to be for days.  I currently eat two meals a day stopping at 8 pm and resuming at 12pm the next day.  It has been very successful for a huge amount of people, including me. Tons of info on youtube.  Of course losing the sugar and grain helps too!
