I can't believe another week has flown by! This week has been really hot for us, so I did morning walk/runs this week but only 2 afternoon walks...I was also recuperating from my over-ambitious 20 km hike from last Saturday. I was all better by Wednesday and was able to go out and do the hike again yesterday, but I only did one loop, so 10 km. I found the back of my legs were getting sore near the end of the 10 km so opted not to do another 10 km loop. I was a bit disappointed, but I know I will work up to doing that 20 km hike effortlessly soon. I have another full week of work, then 3 weeks off, so I plan on doing my Buntzen Lake Trail Hike every couple of days until I can comfortably do the entire 20 km. I might even add another 15 km to this as I also want to do the Diaz Vistas which run a higher elevation...so that is my goal for my 3 week staycation 🙂

Down 0.3 lbs this week to 162.3 lbs, which is a little slower than my goal of losing 0.5 to 1 lbs/week during this loss phase.  My eating goal has been about 2500 cal/day, but I've been a little lax (around 2650/day) so I'll pay better attention to my fullness signals and try to cut a few hundred more calories/day.

                                             Ave. Fitbit-calculated daily calorie deficit last week

  • Sun, 6/10:    167.3 lbs          (end maint/begin cut)
  • Sun, 6/17:    167.5 lbs  -519
  • Sun, 6/24:    166.5 lbs  -1033
  • Sun, 7/1:      165.5 lbs  -453
  • Sun, 7/8:      165.2 lbs  -538
  • Sun, 7/15:    164.3 lbs  -631
  • Sun, 7/22:    163.7 lbs  -565
  • Sun, 7/29:    163.2 lbs  -592
  • Sun, 8/6:      162.6 lbs  -939
  • Sun, 8/12:    162.3 lbs  -889

-0.3 lbs since last week, -5 lbs since June 10.

Second week of maintenance for me and still had a loss of -1.1 pounds. I did eat more than normal all week, but I was careful to stay under my calories burned by a couple hundred on average. Going to up the calories eaten a bit more this week and see if I can get the weight loss close to no change.

Week 10/12 of cutting phase during which I’am trying to lose between 0.25 and 0.50 kg per week in average:

Week 0, ending 4-Jun-18: 64.4 kg, 14.2k steps, 2819 cal.

Week 1, ending 11-Jun-18: 64.7 kg, 20.2k steps, 3162 cal. -> +0.29 kg

Week 2, ending 18-Jun-18: 63.6 kg, 21.8k steps, 3098 cal. -> -1.17 kg

Week 3, ending 25-Jun-18: 63.1 kg, 17.2k steps, 2952 cal. -> -0.47 kg

Week 4, ending 2-Jul-18: 62.6 kg, 23.4k steps, 3128 cal. -> -0.44 kg

Week 5, ending 9-Jul-18: 62.5 kg, 20.4k steps, 3032 cal. -> -0.16 kg

Week 6, ending 16-Jul-18: 62.0 kg, 25.6k steps, 3177 cal. -> -0.47 kg

Week 7, ending 23-Jul-18: 61.0 kg, 17.8k steps, 2852 cal. -> -1.04 kg

Week 8, ending 30-Jul-18: 60.1 kg, 24.0k steps, 3079 cal. -> -0.86 kg

Week 9, ending 6-Aug-18: 59.4 kg, 21.3k steps, 3084 cal. -> -0.76 kg

Week 10, ending 13-Aug-18: 59.2 kg, 23.5k steps, 3251 cal. -> -0.20 kg

Only lost 0.20 kg this week, in spite of high activity. The first half of the week was very good, then I got the visit of my sister and her husband on Thursday, which caused my diet to derail:

2018-08-13_2237.png

When you’re eating in a "non-mainstream" way – whether it’s a high-protein/clean-eating diet like mine, or keto, vegan etc. – it’s hard to interact with "normal" people, whether you’re their guest or they’re yours.  I wasn’t going to force my schedule and my way of eating on them, so I just served and ate what they expected and gained 2 kg in 4 days Smiley Sad. Well, not the end of the world, I’ll be on my own again starting tomorrow and should have no problem getting back on track.

In spite of the slow progress, I’m still slightly ahead of the higher deficit plan (-0.5 kg/week):

I will do my best to get back to 59 kg by next Monday.

I'm a little bit worried about this....I was going to spend my 3 week vacation at home and just walk my butt off (hahaha literally), but I have decided to take a 2 weeks of that 3 week vacation and go camping for one week and one week being a tourist on Vancouver Island (staying in a hotel)....I will be totally away from home and my routine...and I am trying to mentally prepare myself for the switch...but I am worried...I am pretty sure I can stay super active, but food wise, I'll be pretty much eating camping food for the first week and eating out every meal the second week, hotel has a fridge, but no stove...I'm glad I have a bit of time to prepare...any helpful suggestions from others who have been there?

Still in maintenance mode and lost -0.8 pounds for a total of 2.7 pounds since starting. I have been gradually increasing my calories (still in deficit) and trying reach equilibrium. I'm eating about 500 more calories a day. Maybe my metabolism kicked in a bit?

@BaltoscottYes hopefully my next weigh in will be a bit closer to no change. It is nice to see the scale go down with out trying, but on the other hand I am trying to slow things down for a bit. It sure has been nice to have a bit more food and have an adult beverage now and then.

Best Answer

@HisDudeness: I don’t think metabolism would be rebuilt in a mere two weeks after dieting for 6-7 months. It could be "diet stress" relief (cortisol). At any rate, you are in a good spot right now, if you know for a fact you are eating more than before, yet continue to lose weight. No need to be in a rush to reach equilibrium, just carry on and enjoy the extra food!

Not weigh in time yet, but I wanted to share an odd milestone.

I've lost 22.8 lbs so far and other than my husband, who tells me every day how much my body is changing, no one has mentioned anything. I can tell a huge difference when I look in the mirror and in how my clothes fit, had to go buy a whole new set of clothes in a smaller size couple of weeks ago.

But yesterday for the first time, someone other than my husband has mentioned my weight loss. After work I changed into my walking clothes to go for a walk, and one of my staff saw me and said "Oh WOW! you can really tell you have lost weight when you wear that!" And we started talking about how I managed to lose weight, she's also trying to lose weight.

I just think it's neat that others are noticing now...this is the part where everyone asks for your secrets on losing weight...except there are no secrets...just persistence and consistence...

It is definitely validating when other people notice @lavabelle.  Usually people who see you every day might notice but aren't really sure so they stay quiet, then all of a sudden one person -- who probably hasn't seen you for a month or so -- says something and then everyone is talking about it.   Keep at it!

Down 0.2 lbs this week to 162.1 lbs.  Actually had my TrendWeight down to 162 on Friday morning, but then had an unplanned beach weekend, lots of meals out, and a late week bump like @Dominique did last week.  Up 4 lbs between the Friday morning weigh in and the one just two days later this morning.   That should all pass through by mid-week, though.

I gained half a kilo since last week, but this is mostly due to ending last week at 60.8 kg after the visit of my sister. Since her departure, I’ve been back on track and lost most all of the 2.3 kg I gained during her stay:

2018-08-20_1351.png

I’m now back within the planned band (0.25-0.50 kg/week):

2018-08-20_1355.png

I expect to finish the last week of this diet at around 58.0 kg, for an average of 58.5 kg for the week. This would put me very close to last data point of the -0.5 kg/week curve (for a total weightloss of 6 kg in 12 weeks).

@lavabelleI had a similar experience, my wife noticed my weight loss much quicker than anybody. Even though she knew, but would say "I can really tell it in your face, or that shirt looks like it fits a lot better."  Most of my family and close friends didn't really start noticing until I had lost around 25 pounds. Now people I don't know well are starting to say, "have you lost weight?" People always ask so cautiously too, kinda funny. But it is certainly nice when people notice.

Lost -0.6 this week, down to 230 even. Just enjoying being able to eat a bit more...but within moderation and enjoying the last bit of summer.
