Weight Loss Goal 50 to 100 Pounds

Hi!

I'm trying to lose 75 pounds, hopefully at a rate of 1.5 pounds per week. I started on my journey a week and a half ago and I'm currently down 3.6 pounds.  I'm looking forward to a healthier lifestyle and if you want friends for extra motivation feel free to add me.  🙂

Hi Hayley, I can totally relate to what you are saying. I've lost the same 14lbs over and over. I have 6 1/2 stone to lose and am at the heaviest I've ever been. It's time to take it seriously. I have to see it as a permanent lifestyle change rather than a diet...because I go at it in my all or nothing style for a month or so, lose a stone, get bored, end up binging and eating rubbish food and before too long I'm back where I started 😞 I could have written your post it sounded so familiar 😘 let's help each other this time around x

Always thinking that this time it will be the time I commit - and then I get really in to it, lose about 20-30 of the 100ish that I'm needing to lose and then get derailed. I am really working on not being an all or nothing kind of person. Those of us with perfectionist issues will understand. I remember the last time I was really on track - down 30ish pounds and a good friend of mine said to me as I was staring at a Rocky Road bar..."You know you've more than earned it" and that was that. Oh then I earned pizza and coke and appetizers and not going for long walks etc etc until I no longer had any sense of healthy patterns I developed. It seems so ridiculous for me to say that one Rocky Road bar got me back to where I'm at today, but in away I suppose it did. I hadn't figured out how to make it work.

Wow, so many posts since I last checked in!  I agree with the comments about the great people on this board.  It seems to me that when we have a bad day or week - we all relate to the feelings that go with it and provide support.  And, when we do well, we are completely on side and there to cheer each other on.

I love the activity on this board and look forward to watching everyone's successes along the way!

Tarabear that can be super frustrating. I know my weight always goes up when it's that time of month. Maybe try having one day that you eat your exercise calories to try to kick start your body again but I wouldn't do anything until you get back to normal. As for the water I would recommend drinking if you feel thirsty don't worry too much about that. 🙂

Phyllis I understand how discouraging it can be if you aren't first, how about trying to set different goals such as aiming for second or third. I would also recommend looking at your friends on here and try to do challenges with people that seem to be on the same level you are. That way you feel better about your chances of winning and you can spark your competitive side. (I know I can get discouraged if people are blowing me out of the water). I use fitbit and loseit together and it seems to be the perfect balance for me. 🙂

Haley welcome! I am definitely type a and that perfectionist type so I couldn't understand more! Isn't it funny how one seemingly little thing can throw us off? I would be up for any challenge you throw my way so bring it on! 🙂

Paperclip I couldn't agree more! When I'm getting down on myself knowing others feel the same makes such a difference. Honestly I used to feel lonely because I didn't think anyone understood. The loneliness made me do more self destructive things like overeating or not exercising which just made things worse. This time just feels different because of all of you. I'm actually staying on track during a vacation! I started at 245 and in just two weeks I'm at 239! That's in large part thanks to all of you!

Hi Lisa. I am not discouraged with being last because I am not competing
with anyone, I am not a competitive person. I have set my own goals and
that is working for me. Everyone is doing a wonderful job.
Congratulations everyone. 😉

Hi Phyllis sorry I guess I misunderstood your post. 🙂 That's wonderful that you are self motivating! Do you have anything that you do to keep yourself motivated that you feel comfortable sharing? I'm always looking for new ideas! 🙂

I try to move as much as I can -every 100 steps counts! I walk every 15 min break at work, as well as before work, during my lunch, and often while I watch tv. Hey, walking in place counts! The other day I was babysitting my baby niece, so I ran in place for 3 miles while she slept. I do walk outside and go for runs as well, but I'm a wimp in bad weather. When it's cold/rainy/dark, some times I go to target or walmart and walk ;-). Ikea is awesome for that as well. Basically, anywhere, everywhere -that's my motto. I'd rather people think I'm nutty but healthy, instead of normal but overweight.

Anngirl that's awesome! I love the Ikea idea! Now do you have any ideas on how to avoid wine on vacation 😉
Best Answer
Nope, don't avoid it! Just take a hike first ;-). Lol. For me, I can't give up lattes - so I have them on days I when I go for a run :-). As long as it's in your budget, keeping a few favorite treats saves your sanity 😉

not quite the same as walking in place, but if you are to close yourself off in a room with your stereo or ipod whatever than you can just dance it out. Sounds totally ridiculous but it's really fun. Just be sure to make sure that you have privacy!!!
You'll be amazed at how good a workout you can get while you're just dancing.

My path isn't always straight or clear, but at least I'm on the way somewhere.

That's awesome, Hayleycan!  I have to admit, there are times when I'm doing walking on the spot steps that the music is just too good to keep walking and it turns into dancing! LOL

Love it Haleycan! I do a lot of dancing bit I definitely do it in private. I might be having fun but with my lack of coordination it's in everyone's best interest to be alone so there isn't anyone to trip over! 😉

Maddison, I wonder how you're doing after your last little setback?  Were you able to get back on track?  Do we need to kick you in the virtual butt? LOL  Hope all is well!!

Thanks Vanessa, I'm back on track for the last 48 hours so that's a start. I'm heavier than I've ever been so it's time for change. Been suffering from depression for years and finally been referred for specialist advice. The Dr thinks I have atypical depression which is a specific form of depression characterised by excess hunger, fatigue, excess sleeping and binge eating. I feel like finally someone has found the cause of me feeling like this...and more importantly this type of depression doesn't usually respond to the SSRI group of medications so basically I've been treated with the wrong type of drugs for the last 20years. I'm hoping now with the right treatment I can gain control of my eating and finally have some energy to live my life. Sorry for long post. It's been a tough few weeks but I'm now feeling hopeful and have begun my Fitbit journey again with renewed enthusiasm x
Good luck to all of you who are also on this journey.

Wow Maddison, that must be both frustrating and liberating to know that you were on the wrong meds.  I take them too and sometimes wonder why I have to take them.  Then I sneakily start to come off them and it's very apparent the difference (for me and my husband).  I hope that with this doctor you can come up with a plan that works for you.

It's so easy to slip back in to old comfy habits.  Eat what you want, when you want, watch tv when you want and basically just exist.  For me, I'm going to use this thread to reach out whenever I have an urge to eat something that is not a smart choice.  I know that's not practical, but I'm going to try and make it work.  It's 3pm here and I'm exhausted. I have the 3pm blahs and would normally want something to eat just to perk me up.  Not the right choice, so here I am.

I hope that you too will reach out here anytime you need too.  Whenever you feel like it's easier to just eat something that is not a smart choice, make the choice to fight back.  You are totally strong enough and worth it.

My path isn't always straight or clear, but at least I'm on the way somewhere.

Hi guys. Lost internet access a few months ago. Haven't been wearing my flex for as long. Now I'm on an mobile but can't get back to the group's that I used to belong to, so I'm starting fresh. Originally had about 135 lbs to lose. Lost 60 in six months and have maintained it within 5lbs for the past 8 months but it's time to get at it again. P.A. winters have made exercise more difficult, or more honestly motivation has been lacking. It's nice to be back.

Yeah it sucks being on antidepressants but I've come to realise that being off them is much much worse for me. My eating problems go hand in hand with my mood/depression and have been there for a long time. Definitely time to make some changes in my life. Let's support each other 😘

I've been on anitdepressants for the last 18 months, it sucks needing the pills, but makes a huge difference in how I cope. I'm learning coping strategies too. I'm new to my fitbit, I just got it over the weekend from my Brother in law I need a new strap, and am waiting for them to arrive from Amazon, but i'm Averaging 6,000 steps a day, now I need to create the habits to increase that number.

I'm a fibre artist, so getting up and moving sometimes  doesn't happen like it should, but the fitbit doesn't count my treadling on the spinning wheel

Very happy, and excited, to report - I've lost a total of a bit over 10 lbs since joining in late May (I weigh myself every Friday).

I'm so excited and thankful for the motivation that fitbit, and your posts, give me every day.  I may have achieved the 10 lbs but you all have achieved the credit for it.  Thanks everyone!!!  I hope I can return the many favours along the way!

yeah, depression sucks. I wish it didn't have such a negative effect on my energy. I don't have much energy as I'm 6 stone overweight but it's difficult to be motivated to move more when you have depression. It's like going round in circles sometimes!
