Hi all! I'm a product designer and a fresh starter at FitBit. I have problems about issues like exercising, keeping track of calories and finding motivation. I'd like to get some knowledge and experience from those who would like to join my discussions. Here's my second question: What do we actually do to lose weight?
Many thanks to all in advance!

i started eating low carb. for me, that's all it took. i do exercise, but that's only to maintain muscle mass.

Negative calorie count = calories burned > calories taken in by eating
Of course, you have to make sure those intake caloreis are "healthy" types of nutrition.
And sustain exercise programs that won't kill you but at least allow you to burn a planned amount of calories each session and day.
There's a lot that goes into exercising and nutritional eating, but the right combo will result in impressive weight loss for very overweight folks (like I was).
Now, it's all about maintenance through these tempting holiday months...

I started by talking with a nutritionist and adjusting my diet, she suggested a low carb diet, this was followed by an exercise program. Two days at the gym the rest is either walking or riding a bicycle, as long as there is 30 minutes a day of exercise, it can be done all at once or spread out during the day. Two things I learned were: if it took you a year to put on the weight, it will not come off over night and don't trust the scale, body weight fluctuates so don't let the scale dictate your actions.

2nd question easiest - burn more than you eat by a reasonable amount.
1st question very individual - I always liked and have done exercise (which isn't needed for weight loss, but body transformation so it's the right weight that is lost, like fat, not muscle), so no motivation there needed. Enjoy pushing body to see what it can do, seeing improvements, ect.
Logging you just accept fact you cannot burn more than you eat unless you have some clue regarding both sides of that equation. And if you want success you'll find it the more accurate you are.
Motivation to do so was found through a 2 week test of being super consistent and actually seeing expected results, compared to iffy logging gave iffy results. Simple as that.
Motivation to do the whole thing was to do races like I did 15 years ago, or at least close to it (better actually now). And making backingpacking and playing with my sone more enjoyable because easier.
Health from decent diet and exercise rarely actually enters the mind, though in the past I've gotten motivated after blood test results and high cholestrol numbers.
