When it comes to steps at work

I work at a covenience store as a service clerk which means I'm usually ringing customers as well as doing projects on the floor for eight hours. For days that I am at the register all day, I get about 6k-8k steps. Also, a few days a week, I get to be completely on the floor for half of my shift netting me 12k-14k steps. It's amazing how many steps I make working at the store though it does involve a lot back and forth walking.

To the point, it seems 10k-12k seems to be the sweet spot for many people losing weight, but many are achieving this by going out walking (or whatever exercise). I am counting my calories, and I just recently started. It's too soon to tell how well I am doing currently, but I am wondering if I should be putting more focus on getting at least 30 minutes of "Very Active" steps. I would appreciate any advice!

It's a balance.  Remember, you want your overall intake of calories to be less than the calories you burn (by whatever calorie deficit you chose in your weight loss plan.).  Very active minutes burn more calories than regular steps.  The more calories you burn the more you can eat in your plan.  If you find you don't want to eat those extra calories you can up the intensity of your plan and lose weight a bit faster.  It is personal to you.  If you feel like you can do more active minutes after work go for it, just make sure you don't hurt yourself by trying too much too soon.  You might want to ease into it.  Good luck!
