Why calories?

ANSWERED

Am I the only one who feels the whole idea of counting calories is rather outdated?

A lot of recent research indicates that losing weight by minimizing calory intake is bound to failure (long term), and that the only way to achieve long term weight loss is  by eliminating fast carbohydrates, stop eating between meals and practice occasional fasting.

Personally I would love if Fitbit could include also the possibility to measure one's intake of carbohydrates (fast and slow) and periods of fasting.

Any comments?

Hi @rockpool -- I'm chagrined for having misinterpreted you -- I apologize for my impatient and unwelcoming response.

I don't think anyone is offended by the questions you raised as to value of tracking calories and recent research on other contributors to weight loss.  It's highly relevant to this forum, and folks here are both curious and opinionated about it.

As to Fitbit feature enhancements you would suggest, I'll just reiterate that the Feature Suggestions forum is probably the best place to post those.  However, I'm not very optimistic that a major change in how nutrition is tracked is likely to be incorporated into the software (but that's only my intuition).

Thanks for your thoughts and contributions.

I think you are probaly right, about the likelyhood of the changes I was aiming at, Dave. No offense taken. I thorougly enjoy my fitbit and will continue to do so. I have also found lots of valuable info in the forums. And once I used the chat function when I couldn't get something to work and got help right away.

In short, I think Fitbit is great, but there is of course always room for improvement. 🙂
