Fibit App Tacks :
Why do I need to pay for Fitbit Zip, for example ?
I think the motivations to get a / any fitbit device might be :
( depending upon which features do they support )
I am not sure ...
If I understand, how my steps would be tracked after getting a fitbit tracker while I already have FitBit App installed on my phone and my phone is in my pocket ?

I've used a couple of phone trackers.
Noon (noom?) only counted if it was in my hand, it rarely was, even on super sensitive, I dont pick my phone up to go make a coffee ect
Map my run is great, if you remember to turn it on and off.
I've got a charge HR, it just works, I dont have to remember anything, I cant leave it behind, and it does my heart rate too.
There are other solutions, but it seems to be working for me

My point is, I am not jumping out from my chair after knowing that fitbit can not track my biking activity, or my workouts automatically ?
... or am I reading old posts ?

Hi
I have the HR Charge, i keep all my data up to date and it has motivated me to do more during the day.
One advantage of a fitbit is if you are exercising outside you can leave your phone locked away at home, so if you do get mugged they only take your fitbit?
I like the fitbit because it means i can get up to the minute feedback on how my day and diet os going, if i see my levels are low i can do somethng about it alternativly if i see my levels are too high i can react.
I went for the HR Charge because it does more than your standard phone app esoecially the included heart rate monitor, this can give a more acurate reading of your BMR and TDEE which is so helpful, you could be sat at 10pm and see you are 150 cal off your daily activity burn and whip out for a quick run or hit the spin bike...

I think you're missing what the tracker does. See here:

The app itself is not going to track all your steps and active minutes.

Hi Atali
The HR Charge has the ability to track cycling porperly using the bult in tracker and the heart rate monitor, when you log what kind of activity it was on the app it calculates what you need to know about the exercise you did.

- Silent Alarm
- Sleep Tracking
- Other features provided by Surge - like Music controls
- Floor Tracking ( if not for Zip )

Zip doesn't do sleep tracking either, or alarms actually. So even less reasons there.
The accelerometer on the phone isn't as accurate for tracking steps in all cases, exercise would especially be interesting I think.
Though, could manually log exercise if you had a more accurate estimate from say an existing HRM.
You talk and walk, or text and walk? Steps won't be accurate either, or rather the distance of those steps. And that's what makes the calorie burn, pace and weight.
