Will I burn a lot of calories?

Hello guys! I am an overweight girl who is having trouble with losing weight.

I just had a question about keto diet.

Will I lose weight if I do about 10,000-20,000 steps while being on keto diet?I heard that excessive excersise won't let me lose weight.

My job is a customer service job and I also walk A LOT but then I heard about this diet plus with this theory.

Please help me

Welcome to the community, @Keto_diet!

All things being equal, an active person will burn more calories than a less active person. Whether you will burn a lot of calories depends on the duration and the intensity of your activity. Just compare the calories you burn on a 5k steps day to what you burn on a 20k steps day, as estimated by your Fitbit.

Your body’s preferred/default fuel for activity are carbohydrates. In that respect, the ketogenic diet may not be optimal for someone who is very active. However, the idea is that once you become "keto-adapted", your body will use fat instead of carbs as fuel. This is not ideal for fueling high-intensity activities for which you need to supply a lot of energy in short bursts, but should be OK with low-intensity activity such as walking.

What you heard about excessive exercise preventing weight loss may be related to the fact that stress can result in chronically elevated cortisol, which in turn can inhibit weight loss. So the question is: does all the walking you do during and outside of your job cause you to overreach? Your job may also be stressful, and being in a caloric deficit (necessary condition for losing weight) is also stressful in and of itself. If stress is under control, you should have no problem getting 10-20k steps a day. Walking is a great activity that you can easily recover from. The extra activity will allow you to eat more while having the same deficit, which will make your weight loss more bearable.

hey there @Keto_diet.. I am not sure if keto and walking will impede your ability to lose weight. Regardless of what "diet" you choose, the secret to losing weight is moving more and eating less. you still may want to track your calories consumed to see if you are over, at or below what you need to lose weight. just choosing keto is not a guarantee that you will lose weight if you are eating above the calories you need per day...
