any tips on losing body fat?

Hello!

I am currently using a fit scale to determine by body fat % which is approx. 28.5%. Although I do not have my exact muscle mass %, I do feel as if it is on the higher end because I can see definition in my abs and arms through the fat.

I was wondering is anyone has any tips on keeping my muscle mass while decreasing my body fat %.

My BMR is currently 1700cals and I aim to eat 1200cals everyday.

I currently do 2 HIITs per week and train my upper body (abs, back, triceps, biceps, etc) and lower body (glutes and quads) 2x per week with low weights and resistance bands.

Thank you!

Depending on which scale you're using, how old it is and where you keep it, those body composition scales can be inexact to say the least. Keeping the scale in your (often damp) bathroom can cause the sensors to decrease accuracy.

Are you doing any daily or more regular basic cardio activity like walking for 30 or more minutes in addition to the HIIT sessions? It will take months of exercising for your body composition to change drastically. Just keep at it. Drink plenty of water, and get out and walk for a half hour - get your heart rate up, not a leisurely stroll - every day for two weeks. I bet you'll see a change in your fat %.
