In order to lose weight there needs to be a deficit between calories burned and calories consumed. If you want to lose 1.5 lbs a week, you need to eat 750 calories less than you burn. When you excersize, your calories burned increases, therefor the amount of calories you eat will go up. You are still keeping the 750 calorie deficit, even though you eat more some days than others. It all depends on calories burned.

There is a setting to make your calorie goal static. Let's say you want to eat only 1800 calories a day. I believe the only way to do that is to go into your settings on the Mobile app and under Diet, Food you can "set your own goal". Type in 1800 calories and then fitbit will keep track of how close you are to that goal each day, no matter how many calories you burn.

Either way will help you lose weight. Some prefer to keep a static calorie goal while others just want to keep a deficit depending on how much they burn.

Hope this helps! Welcome to the forums!

edit: I stand corrected. You can change your calorie goal on the dashboard. When you go to set your goals, on the second "slide" there is an option at the bottom to "select my own calorie goal".
