I know the newest fitbit can be worn on your wrist...but what about the fitbit one?

It will not be very accurate on the wrist. It was not made for the Wrist.

When I'm at home I quite often wear the One on my wrist. I find it more comfortable than on a waistband if I'm sitting or cleaning etc. However, it's not at it's most accurate on the wrist, I get a lot of 'false steps' where really that was just a big arm movement, not a step!
So, yes, you can. But for more accurate results try for a pocket or even a bra. Ankles give inaccurate resuls too.

The Flex suffers from the same issue, so I'm wondering if there is really THAT big a difference in the calibration.
I love the One I "inherited" from my son (who refused to use it), but I love the convenience of wearing my Flex on my wrist.
I'm seriously wondering if they could make a wrist band for the One, and if it would make THAT big a difference on the accuracy.
