How dose this thing count them? is it just counted when you step is that what is counted or dose it give you the total count for just living. I see that I burned a lot when I was swimming and when I was walking but dose this thing count the ones you burn when you are sitting still? and also how dose it know when you are walking because in the store I have my hands on the cart so they are not swing but I am steping can it read that?? have not had this thing long a few days.

The calories burned are BMR calories. Your fitbit also calculates calories burned for your BMR. You burn calories just by being alive! Even Sleeping. Fitbit includes these burned calories in it's calorie calculations, so even if you did not wear the fitbit, you'll still burn these calories.

thanks that what I was wondering if they added the count to your living colories or if they just counted what you burn from steps.

Fitbit calculate all calories, even those you burn when you sleep. Even if you don't wear your Fitbit!
