walking in place, jogging in place, walking on a rebounder while you are watching a movie ... it all counts!

as long as your're moving, you're doing something. A long time ago when I lived in a place with horrible weather I did the "walk away the pounds" series, yes the videos were kind of cheesy and I would make sure my door was shut and I was not visible to others doing this, but I tell ya what, it helped.

Yes I do Leslie Sansone - walking DVD's. If you haven't seen them - check out youtube. Any movement is better than no movement. Ramp it up with arm excercises - reaching above head etc - helped me build some muscles. I loved the DVD's as an over weight person can do them easy enough - although initially challenging to my hips. I just about do one every day along with long 1 to 1/2 hour walks outside.
I've lost 30 KG's and built up to walk 1/2 marathon in 3 hours 27 minutes - just last Saturday.
Walking on the spot, jogging etc - it all counts and is better than sitting on ones backside. Cheers

I bought a stepping machine which I put in front of the TV and try to use this while I watch back-to-back episodes of Breaking Bad!
Otherwise I do exercises such knee to elbow or squats. It all really helps.

No - it doesn't.
If you want to burn fat, you need to get your heart rate up to at least 150. Sure, marching in place is better than sitting on the sofa - but that is the wrong attitude. There are lots of things that we do that are "just good enough".
If you are serious about losing weight, then be serious about it and do not try taking the easy way out.
Go outside and walk, then run for 30 seconds (get that heart rate up), then walk for a few more minutes, then run for another 30 seconds. That is how the magic happens.
Walking in place is a waste of time and energy. Do things right the first time, trust the process, do not cheat yourself, and the weight will come off.

I guess that depends on your goal.
If the point of your movement is to move more and to hit your goal, then sure. Some movement is better than no movement.
My general theory though, is if you can walk outside or on a treadmill, these are much better options and are doing much more for your health and activity level.
Walk in place, see how your body feels. Walk around the block. See how much different your body feels.
MOVEMENT is defintely better than no movement but I would say that it is not in place of real activity. I can jog in place for an hour and get tons of steps but it's not burning anything compared to a 40 minute walk outside. I do realize (especially this time of year) that getting outside or even getting to the gym can be a non-option for some people and that is where i feel walking in place is most acceptable.
Just my two cents though - either way, good luck with your additional movement.

I've been doing the Leslie Sansone DVD's now for 4 weeks and have lost 13lbs as of today. I've been watching what I eat and doing the workouts everyday. I do 3 miles in the morning and 3 in the evening if I can. I found they are good for me as they don't make my feet hurt as long as I do the low impact. Some of her newer dvds have lots of bouncing and shifting side to side which I can do for a bit but it makes my feet sore which makes it hard to finish the workout so I tend to just do the walking or side steps.
Give them a try

I think you answered yourself with that - if you feel better and notice a difference in your daily routine, then it's all good. The end result is exactly that.

I tried xbox one's fitness app. they have some free workout videos on there.
I tried their version of zumba today since today was not my running day, totally kicked my butt. Its not neccesarily as good as going to a zumba class, but its a 30 minute cardio session and its free, something should be after we forked over that much money to microsoft lol.

Yes it does. You have to start somewhere. For someone with who is already in great shape it won't do anything for them, but if you're just starting out, that can make all the difference. Leslie Sansone is wonderful. You do what makes you feel better.

I jog in place while watching TV programs. I have found that that is the easiest way to get my active minutes and a head start on my steps. Once the weather is better, and yes I do live in FL but it has been chilly, I am hoping to encourage my husband to walk with me outside as it is boring to walk alone. Getting steps is no problem when walking in wildlife refuges or the beach but I don't always get my active minutes because of stopping and looking. I tried using the eliptical machne a few days ago and although I got some steps, I got no active minutes.
