@EYG One pound is 3,500 calories. It's not so much how much protein you need per day to lose weight, but it's the calories. Weight is gained when you consume more calories than you burn.
Protein is good to keep you from getting hungry, too.
There are many diet plans, but you'll find what works best for you. Just realize it takes time to lose weight and don't be hard on yourself.
We're here for you.

Besides the comment above about your word phrasing indicating some confusion on what causes weight loss, there are studies of weight loss and protein intake to help retain muscle mass - this is with lifters so that was part of requirement, and reasonable deficit.
Common recommendation based on studies of lifters NOT losing muscle mass for show prep.
Max needed was 0.82 grams per lb of body weight daily.
More wasn't useful. Not harmful either if you have no liver problems, but if expensive or difficult to get, don't need more.
Now, you could still eat that much, do no strength training, and unreasonable deficit, and still cause muscle mass loss. Gotta do all 3.
