looking for friends - 50s and female and getting fabulous!

Hi!  I'm looking for some friends for motivation and support.  I'm 51, female, and working on losing 30 lbs.  My A1c is pre-diabetic so I'm shedding some weight to try and get it under control. 

 

Anyone?

Also 54, Go 50 year olds..... Just replaced my Flex today. I really missed having it the last week. Love how it silently wakes me in the morning to get by butt to the gym. LOL.Smiley Very Happy

I made it to over 10,000 steps today!!! I thought it would take weeks to become that strong. I did two 2.5 mile walks plus stability training and weight lifting. I hope I can move tomorrow. 😎

I totally understand. I work FT and I have a desk job...some days I'm good and get in my 10,000 steps...but other days it just seems impossible.  Right now my DIL is staying with us and when I get home from work I feel like I need to visit with her and feel bad if I go out for a walk....so it's been a bit of a challenge to get moving!  Need a kick "RESTART" for sure!

Hi 10,000 steps is fantastic. I usually do between 5000 - 7000. Done couple of 10,000 . I was wondering about weigh ins.Is it best in the morning , after a workout , once a week or just personnel preference? (Hate my scale).

I am 47 and want to lose about 30-40 pounds. I am stuck so i am all about connecting with others in my situation. I walk every morning and could not eat any healthier. Arrrggghhhh

Hi, I'm 50 too - I've just found these discussion groups and am very enthusiastic about using my one week old Fitbit. I bought the Fitbit to help me excercise, monitor my diet and loose weight - I want to lose 33lbs. I lost weight before by doing exactly what I'm trying to do now with the Fitbit but previously I was using two apps on my phone to calculate the distance of my walks and count calories. It's great to have this discussion board which has already helped me find answers to some of my questions - but I still have to find out what information the lights give when I tap the band...Smiley Embarassed

Just hit the 50 milestone and I am a Fitbit phanatic! Had mine for 3 weeks now. It is great motivation. My first goal is 15, but I could lose up to 30 eventually. Love the encouragement on this forum!

You will love it especially if you are the sedentary type.

Hook up with others and you can have some fun competition and you really do start feeling better.

I am a 61 yr old male and try to get 10-15  thousand steps in a day it's great!

Back off the carbs and weight comes right off.......

I turned 52 today. I have had my fitbit for a few weeks now. On August 1st I started to eat a more healthy diet. So far I have lost 18 pounds. My first goal is 10% of my starting weight which will be 21 pounds. I have promised myself a mani-pedi when I reach that goal. Overall I have 66 pounds I would like to loose but, more importantly I want to be healthy when my first grandbaby arrives in February 2015! This year I was diagnosed with high blood pressure and as being pre-diabetic. I love my life and I want to make it last as long as possible. I sure could use some encouragement too. My focus now is to maintain the healthy eating and increase the number of steps I do in a day. Right now I only average about 5,000. I manage a veterinary clinic and it can be  a very sedentary job.

Fantastic start countryjubilee! Keep up the good work. With the steps try increasing by even 100 a day. Every little bit helps. Congrats on the grandbaby!

At the height of my successful weight loss roller coaster, when I'd have a craving after dinner, I'd make a cup of sugar free and caffeine free instant coffee (one of the flavored blends) and sip on that. It seemed to give me something to do while the crave seemed to pass. When I was done with it, I felt good for not caving in to the craving. I also discovered that eating a little piece of fruit and/or peanut butter (like a tsp) helped to sustain me through the night. A crunchy option like popcorn almost seemed to trigger me, so I do best to not start that kind of snack treat.  Good luck! WE can do this. 😃

I have type II diabetes and hypertension and I have significantly improved both by primarily walking.  I think of every step and healthy food choice as a deposit in my "healthy" savings account.  When I view my choices to become healthy and fitter as a gift to my future self it is much easier to resist  choices that don't align with my goals.  Take it one day at a time,  and believe that you will be successful.

I am in the same kind of daily step bracket as you.

 

Re the weighing. It does not really matter when in the day you weigh yourself, so long as you are consistent and step on the scales at the same time each week. There is no point in weighing more than once a week as there will always be day to day fluctuations which can put you off. I have been advised that once a month is even better but I can't wait that long. I need the regular feedback to motivate me! I have just under 3 stones to lose darn it. feel free to friend me. I need all the motivation I can get and I regularly chear/taunt everyone on my friend list when they drop behind or pass me!

Hi they scale is frustrating sometimes , but then you notice that your cloths (Pants) fit better and that makes up for the scale not budging!!!!

Just started walking more, and riding the stationary bicycle a lot. Most of the time I am keeping track of my daily  walking also, about 29.00 steps are with our 5 year old dog Samantha.

Oh, and I quit eating eggs, and swithced up the diet by drinking ALmond Silk milk instead of my 2% stuff.

Eating frozen fruit , (thawed out,) and  inbetween doing laundry and  running  erands , I get a lot done that way also, I ran a 5K , the Quemmohonning run on the 7th of Oct.  that was a first thon for me. next is to do like a6K or more. What are you signing up for in teh next few feeks, or going on in the way of a workout?

 

So you live up in the Pitsburgh area  near the fotball areana or what side of town? I live down in Johnstown. so   I could come up that way on a Friday evening or Saturday morning..

I hit a couple of milestones this week, 1.) hit the 500-mile mark and 2.) I have lost enough weight to leave the obese range and now I am in (just barely) in the overweight range. Both milestones are fun but as I think back over the past few months what seems more significant are the victories represented by the times I left the cupcakes in the break room and ate the apple I took to work, or when I was on the treadmill at 11:30 at night to get those last thousand steps in order to reach my goal for steps that day. Success is not just realized when you hit the 500 mile mark or the magic number of pounds on the scale, but it is also in the small incremental steps we take each day in the decisions we make to achieve our goals for healthy food choices and maintaining our activity level. Those many daily efforts are what ultimately move us forward. I have to make sure I acknowledge that I have not made my goal for steps on many days and there have been days when I didn't make the best food choices, but I have gotten as far as I have at this point by having the days when I did achieve my goals outnumber the days when I haven't.  There can be some measure of success even in a day when you are not perfect, celebrate where you are  successful  in each day.
