looking for friends - 50s and female and getting fabulous!

Hi!  I'm looking for some friends for motivation and support.  I'm 51, female, and working on losing 30 lbs.  My A1c is pre-diabetic so I'm shedding some weight to try and get it under control.

Anyone?

I'm 48, female, and need to lose at least 50 lbs. I've had my Fitbit Charge for a couple of weeks now and could benefit from some friendly competition with [hopefully] people at my same fitness level. I had both of my hips replaced in 2013, then dislocated one of them which set back my healing by several months. And it has been a long slow climb back to reasonably normal activity levels after three years of pain, surgeries, and healing. (I couldn't walk for almost a year before the first surgery).

How much information is shared with Fitbit Friends? Do you see what the person ate or how long they slept? Or is it just steps and activity level? I'm a super private person who is cautious about what I share on the internet.

Thanks!

Pennalynn

I'm 62 and I have been able to get rid of 25 lbs. I thought I was going to be able to get rid of all the extra weight but no. I had signed up for a no swim triathlon and I have been able to do better at all the events but I'm just not where I wanted to be. So I'm going to go and watch the race and maybe do it next year. There are several women my age that do this race. I'm just a little disappointed right now. Not giving up, just a little disappointed.

BarbHELLO ~ I'm so glad to hear that at 62 you are so active!  Most people I know wouldn't even try to do what you have already done.  I'm glad that you aren't giving up, and I understand your disappointment.  But I do think that if you put your mind to it, this is something that you will do awesome at next year 🙂  And you will have all of us to cheer you on as you go!!!

As an aside; I have friended many people here...but my Flex is no longer holding any kind of a charge.  My replacement should be here any day now...but for yesterday and today, Blondie1594 is logging NO steps.  I'm trying to be diligent with other workouts to make sure I don't lose any ground. 😄

Pennalynn; I believe that the settings are very customizable and you can actually view your profile as public, friend, etc to make sure that no information is shared that is sensitive to you.  No one will see your foods or sleeping records unless you make that information public.

Thanks Blondie, I really appreciate the thoughts. I have tears in my eyes, it really ment that much to me. But when it's something that athletic I really have to be careful. I will keep doing all my exercise programs and hopefully get that weight off!  Thanks again!  Barbara

Hi, you have a start. This is the thing you will work on the rest of your life. You can't let up or the weight will come back. Walking is easy and the more you do the better you will feel; the more muscle you will have and the less fat. You are lucky because men usually lose weight more easily than women. Lots of nice people here to give you a gentle push. Just open the door and step out. Let us know how you are doing! Good luck!

Hi, I'm relatively new to this, sadly lost my first one (which was promptly replaced thanks to the FBit folk) within the first couple of weeks. But back onboard now. Am 52, way overweight & unfit seriously out to rectify both now. Haven't worked out the food tracking bit yet so just using the steps part. Definitely making me move more = a good thing.  Hello to you all, looking forward to chatting & supporting

Hi Fitbit people!! 🙂  I'm 51 and have had my Fitbit ChargeHR for 10 days now.  I'd like to lose at least 25 lbs - I've been logging my food intake and have stayed under the allowed calorie intake but not losing any weight.  I am also going through menopause which is horrible - any suggestions???

Well turning 12 or so and starting your period wasn't wonderful either right?  This is a new season in your life and everywomen goes threw it differently so don't concentrate on the neg aspects of it.

First put your Fitbit by your toothbrush, your coffee pot where ever your going to see first thing.  I like to get it out of the way first thing in the morning so mine is either by my alarm or in the bathroom. It will take some time to make your life changes so don't be anxious or unrealistic........it's this stinking thinking that will take the wieght off fast, discourage you faster, frustrate you and make you give up or yoyo.  Don't think of it as dieting, in fact don't go on a diet, don't give up your favorites entirely unless you're a junk food or desert attic. Increase your veggie and fruit intake, protien is important it helps digest the carb's you eat and REDUCE the carbs you eat.  That's my challenge.  I also need to loose 25lbs so if you don't hear from me it's because I can't figure this email thing out on fitbit.  You can find me at Margaux Gove on FB.....it's so much nicer, quicker

I've had my FitbitFlex for over a year now. In the beginning it was a great motivator but as time went on, distractions made it difficult to stay motivated. In summary, I'm female, just turned 58 last month, and have been going thru a major life transition for the past three years — from being a successful marketing executive to not being sure what I want to be (caused in part by a corporate takeover, then a layoff because I didn't want to move across the country for a 6th time, and finally semi-retirement). Before that transition I worked out regularly, was very fit, and in sync with my life. The past 3 years have been a time of self-discovery, accompanied by depression, a 35 pound weight gain, my 3 kids off to college, grad school or starting their own life, and a few more heavy hitters. I've finally (I hope!) hit a breakaway milestone to get fit again. But I need support to keep it going, which is why I joined this forum thread. I promised myself last year that 2015 would be MY YEAR, and I'm ready to get moving and make it happen. So feel free to friend me or just send a word of encouragement, and I will do it, too, for you and others. After all, we're all into his together, right ladies! 😃   P.S. — Be sure when you send the friend request to tell me a little about you so I know that you're "legit." Thanks!

Would love to add you as my friend but not sure how to do that. I have had mine since Xmas and started good for the first two weeks and then stopped. Three weeks ago I decided I was going to put myself first and commit and do this for me. We can do it.

Hi, I will be turning 53 in a couple months.  Just had a physical, my numbers are still great but my BMI 34.  Not good.  I also have alot of inflamation in my knees and osteoarthritis in my right foot.  I can't walk, without pain that is, so now I ride a bike about an hour and a half, and do a 20 min. workout routine first thing in the morning.  I have about 30-40 pds to lose.  Kids got me a fitbit for Christmas, started out with about 10,000 registered steps, I have now got it up to 20,000.  I think for weight lose, 15,000 steps or more is key.  This past month after I increased my steps is when I started to see the scale move, very happy and is motivateing me to keep on trucking or should I say stepping  Good Luck to everyone.  Reply if you have any secret cures for infammation.  Still dealing with pain

You and I sound like we have the same issues.  I am 53 and need 40lbs to lose. I have had my fitbit since Xmas and I havve lost alittle weight but gained it back. Good that you are doing 20,000 steps I am doing 10,000 or more but need to do more. For your inflamation do ginger and tumeric. Start juicing too. Apple Cider Vinegar is too. My pain is at night when I sleep too.
