Hi! I'm looking for some friends for motivation and support. I'm 51, female, and working on losing 30 lbs. My A1c is pre-diabetic so I'm shedding some weight to try and get it under control.
Anyone?

I just turned 53 and bought myself a fitbit charge for my birthday. I am 20 lbs from my ideal weight and was looking for some motivation to move more. I have had it for two weeks and am down 3lbs. I started logging my food a week ago. I have been a Weight Watcher off and on for the past decade and had some success but over time, and a very long winter, I have gained back my weight. I never enjoyed logging food but this program makes it so simple. I never counted calories before and it has really opened my eyes. It's nice to have found this group.

M61: you should also read some previous posts, myself and crystalship also just asked a similar question and wrote down what we are doing, which is similiar in change of eating habits (not a diet) there is no food restriction just cut downs. You also need to make sure you get enough calories, but of the right kind. That is fruits, veggies and more protein. Like annie said 10,000 steps is very doable. I felt the same way at first. When you are doing teaching, if you can try to walk more around the classroom and the parking further, etc. Anytime you go somewhere you ahve to wait, like in line or waiting room don't just stand but move your feet march in place move side to side, you will be moving more. Walking round the house inside worked for me this winter at night while watching tv or marching in place too becuase of the cold and snow not always easy to get outside. but if you have access to a treadmill and have the ability to watch what ou want on it, chose your favorite hour long program and walk to it and soon you can walk more than 1 episode. Just think of adding all day long and then its not so inundating.

Hi Momo53....When I read your post, I thought it was me! I too just turned 53 but I have had my fitbit for a year now and my weight hasn't gone down like I wanted it too. Also, been on Weight Watchers on and off just like you. I would love to lose my 25 lbs. cause I have a wedding in August. I do get my steps in everyday and am trying to be more motivated. Some days I say I am going to track (like Weight Watchers) and then I decide to just do the fitbit 100% for calorie counting. I think I am going back and forth to much on deciding what to use. My worst time is night time snacking! Terrible...
Please feel free to FRIEND me, would love to hear from you. Like I said, your post sounded exactly on my thoughts. We can all do this!
Karen

I posted some tidbits a few minuets ago in another post. But you can try the Butterball Turkey Sticks. They have 20 calories a piece. Keep them with you at all times. Try a teaspoon of Peanut Butter if you have a craving. Take a cucumber and one-half tablespoon of Kraft cheesy Jalapeno Ranch as a snack. The combo will shut down your hunger.

Sorry to hear about your problem. My weight stopped moving for almost three weeks. I am no doctor or Dietician. I am just a guy who had been trying to lose weight for over 30 years. I have some theories and ideas on why we can' lose the weight. I think that the body makes adjustments as it notices that the instead of 3000 calories from a Big Mac, Fries, and Shake, that you now have calories from Cucumbers, Lean Meats etc. I haven't had Cheeto's since last year. But the other day, I could taste them as I was driving too work. I think the body and mind are somehow trying to get me to return to those old eating habits. Same thing happened when I stopped drinking Diet Soda's. I haven't drank them since 11-2013, But sometimes I get weird cravings and I can actually taste the Diet Dr. Pepper. In essence, I think your body does not want you to lose weight. It wants you to stay like you have been for so many years. It will do anything to make sure that you return to your old eating habits. Think about it!!! The more discouraged you get because you did not lose weight, the more you want to give up and go grab a Big Mac with Cheese. I know because I have been going through this on so many other diets in my lifetime. You might want to decrease you calorie level for one week just to see if it moves.

Your body is making you eat more because you are burnng up too much fuel. Cut down on your activities. See my other posts for other tips. I like you get ravenous when I work out. Good Luck!!

I watch my 600 Lb Life. I notice that Dr. Nowardanzan always tells his patients to do three things: Count your calories. Limit but don't take out the Carbs. Drink Fluids. Excercise but don't work out so hard that you damage the body. Stay away from Diet Sodas. They cause an expansion of the stomach in Bariatric patients. Makes them not get as full because the stomach is bigger. I pre-make all of my meals for the next day. I will count the next day' calories on my FitBit Screen. That way I can just take off in the morning with my lunch and have two meals already counted. Good Luck!

Sorry to hear about your Diabetes. Stay away from the Diet Sodas. They confuse the body to make it think it's getting sugar. When it doesn't, it makes your cravings go through the roof for carbs and sugars. Also stay away from Splenda, The Blue Stuff, The pink stuff, the Yellow Stuff. Use Stevia as your artifical sweetner. Don't focus on trying to lose weight so quickly. One pound or two a month as your goal at first. Try to get used to changing, " How and how much you eat" Slowly decrease your portions. Take out all junk food. Get a scale and weight everything. There is a difference in a 3 oz piece of Chicken and in a 6 oz. Good Luck!

I've noticed that since I'e really stepped up my steps (now over 10K a day and somedays, 15K), my appetite has gone out the window. That doesn't happen when I do weights, only cardio (walking or light jogging). As long as I get in a significant amount of walking every day, my appetite stays away. But if I just do weight training and forego steps, I'm ravenous. Not sure if that helps anyone. I've had my fitbit about 6 weeks now I guess...am loving. thanks to many of you for accepting my friendship..you've been very inspirational and have helped me get more on track. I also finished reading a fantastic book that has also helped..it's called The Morning Miracle and has also made all the difference in helping me to establish habits. Am always looking for new friends, so feel free to send me a friend request!

1 or 2 pounds a MONTH, who the heck would sacrifice all of that for that little bit of weight loss, that would keep NO ONE motivated...
