Hi! I'm looking for some friends for motivation and support. I'm 51, female, and working on losing 30 lbs. My A1c is pre-diabetic so I'm shedding some weight to try and get it under control.
Anyone?

I don't like the gym very much. I like jogging and walking. So Jog in the AM before work and walk after work. I do go to the gym here at work. They have classes like yoga, zumba, insanity DVD and I am taking the boot camp class.

Hi Dody! I have a dog that has her legs crossed because she has been waiting for me. My daughter trys to put her out but she won't go and waits for me. So I literally come in one door, sit my work stuff down and go out the other door with the dog on the leash. She doesn't make it 100 yards some times, she take a deep breath and we are off on the rest of the mile. But everyday it's the same think. I feel guilty if I have to do an errand on the way home!
Sometimes, like now, my body aches but I still get up and go. The dog and I did our jog this morning and I'm still sore from an extra mile I did at lunch. I'm 62, I figure it's not going to be easy. 20 more pounds to go! Barbara

Do what you can to reduce your calories. And be careful of your knees! I haven't had a piece of pizza in a couple years because I would eat too much. I haven't had any chips or cheeze or any deserts except the low fat/sugar free ice cream (Blue Bunny) 1/2 c for 90 cals.
Walk when ever you can and take a couple extra steps when you can, like go to the farther paper towel machine in the ladies room. And plan on being a new person, this is a lifestyle and this is your life. Be strong, you can do it and be good to yourself!

That is very similar to what I did to start; I went one mailbox to the next. My route starts uphill and I might make it to the second driveway now at a jog and then walk to the next mail box. It changes day to day depending on what I did the day before. So days I'm already sore when I start out. I can walk forever but the jogging is a little difficult.
The triathlon, the running will be slightly down hill for 5.82 miles and the biking will be slightly up hill for 12.5 miles and the kayaking will of course be down stream. I figure I can stay upright no matter how tired I am, and float to the end!

Don't worry about the runny....walking is great for you and when you loose some weight , your body will let you know when it wants to do more...especially in the cardio realm. My 47 year-old husband had a heart attack this fall then bypass surgery. That is what it took for me to wake up and realize that I am 100 pounds overweight and I had better get healthy or our two middle school age children might be left without us. I have lost 30 pounds since September. I loose 5 pounds then platuea for a week or two, then loose 5 more. I reach my 11,000 step goals every day and have just recently started a "spin" class because I am still too heavy to run. But I listened to my body that was ready for something more.
You can do it....I am rooting for ALL of you fabulous 50 women and men...take care all and keep stepping...MareWalks

I got my Fitbit HR in April and I really love it! I wanted to lose about 30 lbs. I began weight watchers about 4 weeks ago and I'm down abour 13lbs. Using my Fitbit in combination with ww has made me so aware and has helped me so much towards my weight loss goals! Yay!!

Hello Frauliene Annie,
I would love to be your friend. I am 50 and female with 85 pounds to lose. I am fairly active but, unfortunately, love food a bit too much which is my downfall. I have had alot of success with my daily workouts and activity which I have been doing for a couple of years now. I dropped my cholesterol 50 points without drugs and brought my blood pressure to normal levels also without drugs but the weight just does not go and could use a bit of support through this next bit. A word of warning. I am fairly "social media" illiterate. I'm still figuring out how to do posts and so forth so forgive me if I struggle a bit how to post and how to post personal message vs. private message etc. I will pick it up but I might bumble a bit at first.

I agree with other posters that dogs are wonderful motivators. I have to walk my dog as soon as I get home and I have mapped out 500 steps and then we turn around so I get in 1,000 steps each time I walk him. He is 15 so most he ever does is 3x or 3,000 steps each walk and usually wants to stop after two so I put him on the porch and try to grab more steps. I also compete with myself and since I have started wearing fitbit I have only been under 10,000 steps a day twice = the first day when I only wore it for half a day and the third day I wore it. I have been known to walk in the dark in my pjs at 10:00 at night to get up to 10,000 steps before I went to bed.

That is amazing Georgia.
I jog in the morning in the dark, well now it's just a little before dawn so I don't have to take the flash light any more. My dog is a 5 year old rescue and she was a runner when I got her and she runs all the time. Shes 1/2 springer and 1/2 cocker spaniel, so a really cute mix, but so much energy! I think she could run all day. We do a morning mile and hopefully an afternoon mile. Afternoons depend on what the evening plans are.
I have a really hard time getting 10K steps on Sunday because I go to church and after you count getting ready, driving, church, bible study, driving and getting out of the church clothes it's 1/2 a day without many steps. And my Fitbit is connected to my work computer so I never know how many steps I have (except for the buzz).
And I have friends here at work that walk both coffee breaks so that is nice. I think it's about 1/2 mile each time.
Barbara

Hi - I joined FitBit yesterday for motivational help. I turned 50 in November and decided I was tired of feeling "tired". My 40's were rough. Put on a lot of weight after my daughter was born. I lost about 18 lbs just by removing wine and most sugar products and then every stalled. The last few days the FitBit has kept me motivated to move and walk around me. I have 20 lbs more to go...all I know this time I am determined. I can do this, I can do this!!! Have a great night everyone!!

My problem was the snacking before bedtime also. I decided to do a little research and also read one of the fitbit helpful hints for snacking before bedtime suggested some things to curb that problem. The one that I liked was drink a small (6 oz) glass of red wine before going to bed to alleviate the sweet cravings. I have been doing that for about 3 or 4 days and it seems to help, of course I love my red wine anyways. One glass (no more than two) glasses was recommended. Also helps me to unwind before going to bed.

Hi Stacey,
I joined Fitbit in December. I have 30 lbs to loose. I have not lost a pound. I am discourage but I do feel better.
I am doing better with my food intake. I have not given up my wine or beer. Life is too short.
Juli 🙂
