looking for friends - 50s and female and getting fabulous!

Hi!  I'm looking for some friends for motivation and support.  I'm 51, female, and working on losing 30 lbs.  My A1c is pre-diabetic so I'm shedding some weight to try and get it under control.

Anyone?

I've been MIA!

I had to go offline to finish a huge project but it's done and I'm back!

Finally able to move away from my desk and get active.

And I'm NOT saying yes to any more new work. I need a break!

Try filling up during the meal with some water, or Crystal Light, or some Low Calorie Beverage. Also, you might want to add a carrot or an small apple to the meal. They add bulk and Fiber and fill you up.

I don't juice because the fruits have too much sugar. They are super healthy but the calories would be hard to count because your removing a large portion of the fruit or vegetable. Have you looked at how many calories Organic Carrot Juice has at Krogers?  Shocking!!! I eat only things that I can meaure on my digital scale, weigh with my measuring spoons and cups, I find it is easier to keep track of if it has a label on it. Some members of this community would disagree with me but it has worked for me. My own rule, " If I can't count it and measure it, I don't eat it. If you go to a restaurant do what I do, take a meauring spoon or cup, and take a digital scale. It might seem too extreme but this is what I do. The other day I took my Digital Scale to Fuddruckers to weigh  a Turkey Burger. I weighed the Turkey Patty and it weighed 8 ounces. That is a lot of calories!!The buns were weighed too as well. Luckily I had eaten lighter that day and so I didn't blow my count.

Hello Ladies,

I have been a little under the weather since Sunday. Still do not feel a 100% yet.

I really do think that many people have unrealistic ideas about how many calories they can eat a day and about how much they are burning. It is shocking how little calories it takes for an over 40 year old woman 5'4 or under to maintain her weight.  But you are right that the good news is you can find fruits and veges that you can eat pretty much unlimited so it you switch to low calorie but nutrient dense you can get quality and quanity.

Those labels are tricky.  Take "I can Not Believe It is not Butter" - is is ZERO calories in one serving but I think one serving is like one spray!  Same with salad dressing - one tablespoon is usually the erving but most people use double that.  Spreaking of condiments - that and cooking oils - are the number one sneaky calories people do not count - - plus they are were hidden sodium is most often found.

I have never taken a scale but I almost always take condiments and spices.  I went to Ruby Tuesday yesterday and took a sandwhich baggies with home-made salsa verde for salad dressing and for steamed veges plus I took a bottle of Mrs. Dash that I had added Bragg's Brewer's Yeast.  I had the salad bar with just raw veges, Salmon and their steamed squash.

Sorry you are not feeling well.  Hope you get to feeling better for the long weekend.  Yeah the pools will be opening! (Not so yeah to swim suits.)

Juicing is a big part of my program and really helps me but I only drink fresh juices and keep it to at least 80 veges to 20% fruit.  I prefer to do veges juice during day and then eat meal at night.  I also do juice fasts ever so often to detox and to clean up my diet if I had started to let processed food slip in.  I rarely have time to take lunch at work so juicing also makes sure I get my nutrients in even if I can not take a break.  I make up two to three mason jars in the morning of green juice and then put them in cooler and take them to work and drink on them all day.  I am a "vetern" juicer  so I can get by with nothing but some lime or a lemon or one granny smith apple as my only fruit.  I never juice more than two medium carrots at a time since they are pretty high in sugar but they can be used instead of fruit.

I will be 50 in August. Been struggling with my weight for the last 2 years. Prior to that I was a size  2 or 4. Peri menopause has been brutal and the weight has been piling on. I just bought the fitbit today, but I have been active for a while (on and off). If you are interested in talking, let me know and I will send you my email.

Hang in there, you are not alone.

Looks like a lot of really motivated people.

I hit over 15000 steps today after finally really pushing things plus I found a walking buddy.  I'm really enjoying it though my buddy is ten years younger and walks so fast. Had to slow down today due to pains in my shins..it was a really big knot!  I massaged it out, took ibuprofen and it relaxed out and so I went for a second walk. So silly to not stretch but it was a temporary thing.

I'm not counting calories but I'm eating very reasonably. I'm feeling motivated and already more fit.

Welcome all who are new!

Cheers!

Thanks for reply. I have not been tracking carbs, just calories. I'm eating around 1200 calories and exercising (10,000 steps). I have lost 1 pound since last Saturday. Very excited, since I didn't think I could do 1200 calories. That being said, is there a total count for carbs. I like to see how any grams I'm consuming.

I'm 49, turning 50 in Sept.  Just bought my fitbit charger hr yesterday.  I need all the motivation and support I can get.  My hubby has a fitbit also, he's alot more active due to his job and has lost a lot more weight then me, so I get easily discouraged.  I'm also a vegetarian so am always looking for higher protein vegetarian options 🙂

What are you trying to achieve Cyndeemae? Just better health? I've never heard of an overweight vegeterian so it must not be that. . . The fitbit isn't going to make you more active, it is just going to keep track of it for you.  You are the one that has to open the door and step outside or get on the treadmill (whatever). We are here to cheer you on!  We know you can do it!

Hi, I just turned 53 on May 18th.  Also, on that day I did 12 zip lines in the mountains of the Dominican Republic.  I say all that to say, since December 30, I've lost 24 lbs. and what a difference it's made.  I plan to lose at least 10 more lbs., which I know will be even more difficult.
