Hi! I'm looking for some friends for motivation and support. I'm 51, female, and working on losing 30 lbs. My A1c is pre-diabetic so I'm shedding some weight to try and get it under control.
Anyone?

Yes, I want better health, more muscle tone. I'm carrying about an extra 30 lbs. I haven't been eating enough protein and too many starchy veggies and other not healthy food. I want the fitbit to help me track my progress, I'm hoping that it will help me keep myself accountable to me. I have started working out, both cardio and weights. Thanks for the support

Cyndee
Men in general lose faster than women so don't compare self with hubbie and get discouraged.
Set your reasonable goal of 1 lb a week and walk, dance, bike or swim or all of the above. You can do it. Lots of us in our 70's do it so why not you? Ignore the negative thoughts as they lie.
Protein ideas: beans, lentils, greek yogurt, low fat cheese, nuts, quinoa and green smoothies with protein powder. I eat veggie burgers, go lean cereal, some time grab a protein bar 190 cals 17g of protein on the run.
DrFuhrman.com has great, tasty, healthy vegan mostly recipes and good info.

Try one cup of Chicken Noodle Soup 20 minuets before a meal. There is an enzyme in the Soup that makes you feel full. The Soup has 50 calories. I also keep the Lean Cuisne or Michelina's Meals on hand. The Meat Loaf or the Salisbury Steak with Mashed Potatoes have about 190 calories. They are very filling. Feel free to add me to your list of friends.

Vegetarian diet does not always mean healthy diet. I knew girls in college who were vegetarians and mostly lived on french fries and doritos. Even raw vegans can struggle with weight if they are not careful with nuts. I had hit wall on diet on week 10 and only lost 1 pound in 10 days. I switched diet to lower protein - 95% vegen and 95% raw and in last ten days I have lost 6.0. (Prior to that it took me 29 days to lose 6.) Although I am still getting 70,000 steps week in I also eased up last ten days on exercise to take into account the lower calories I am getting since not eating animal protein. I am using pea protein as supplement and that is part of the 5% not raw since it is a powder I imagine the peas were at least dehydrated if not cooked. Little bit or organic goat cheese and organic greek yoghurt is the 5% not vegen. Lots of juicing, green smoothies and big salads. Getting fat from one avacodo a day and some nuts in smoothie. Going to eat this way to Father's Day and then swich back to higher protein and heavier exercise for 60 days and keep rotating until hit my goal of 65 lbs lost in 31 weeks.

rgbgeorgia,
Sounds like you have a clear plan. I get protein from nuts, greek yougurt, go lean cereal and beans then the occasional salmon patty as well.
So many yummy veggies to eat.
Now to go wash clothes, pack and do my 10 k a day.
Best,
Barbara

I am a mom of 5 and 51. I was a chubby teenager and I have always battled the bugde. After my husband of 19 years left me, I finished my education, and started running - up to 65 miles a week - and look fabulous! Raised my kids - got a wonderful career and am now married to a wonderful man, for nearly a year now. I currently weight in at 119 pounds and am 5 feet 5 inches. I don't run any longer - I do weights, yoga and hike. I love my fitbit - my biggest problem has always been nutrition (vegetarian and allergic to gluten) and sleep. I'm now keeping records and feel in control! Glad to meet others who are choosing healthy!

That is so funny! I am vegetarian. A cancer survivor, decided not to put anything chemically enhanced in my body - for the most part. Also, after lots of research, what they do with the animal products......well, I don't want to sway anyone, its my choice. But I went veggie by choice and gluten free by physical need, and it did not make me thin - or healthier. Just a different struggle.

Good morning!! I'm 48 and began using a Fitbit Flex around 5/16 - this weekend, it gave out on me; deciding whether to return or upgrade.
Since December 1 I have lost 35 pounds - I stopped eating sugars, sodas, fast food - added more veggies, fruits and leaner meats and exercise. I joined a bikram yoga studio and have been going six days a week, I also bike and walk. I've been trying to do two a days - yoga at 6am and then walking or biking in the evening.
I like to think I've living a healthier lifestyle and not simply dieting.
Feel free to add me!! 🙂

I'm 47, married, with a 6 year old son.
I lost about 110lbs some years back, mostly on my own and with the help of WW. I gained a bit back after my son was born. I got my FitBit in late Feb of this year, and I'm down 15lbs! I'm about 15lbs from my lowest low (in the last 20 years). I'd like to lose about 100lbs more.
I'm finding weight loss to be much harder at this age. I'm perimenopausal and it really wreaks havoc with the metabolism. Right now, I'm mostly just walking, about 12K steps a day. I'd like to add some other forms of exercise soon!

One thing that I have found helpful, is punching. You can do it while you walk if no one is watching. But it seems to help my flabby under arms and wasteline.
I'm really proud of you for getting in 12K steps! That is great.
It does take a while. Just do what you can do and the weight will come off!
You go girl!

Hey there, I am keeping up with my stepping but have been drinking too much wine and then I eat other bad stuff after that. I need to get back on track. It is not easy, that is for sure. Hope you are doing better than me. Happy Stepping!
