looking for friends - 50s and female and getting fabulous!

Hi!  I'm looking for some friends for motivation and support.  I'm 51, female, and working on losing 30 lbs.  My A1c is pre-diabetic so I'm shedding some weight to try and get it under control.

Anyone?

I have not heard of Fitness Pal but how COOL that you can track your food intake and it communicates with the Fitbit! ?That is awesome!

It seems as though the method of chat from fitbit doesn't work terribly well.  If I reply, once it's posted, it's separated from the original. Will the Quote help there? Maybe. I also thought of creating a new threat every day with the date added to the title. We could all look for that thread and post our encouragement for each other and updates on ourselves? Let me know what you think.

Hi I am a bit over 50 at nearly 63 but would love to exchange stories. In June 2013 I went for my annual check up. After being told I was pre diabetic earlier I was put on Metforim but didn't change my lifestyle at all. My a1c at this appointment topped out at 7.3. Glucose was 167. Scared me a lot. I was weighing 270 at 5'4". Wake up call!! Dr told me to try cutting out all white foods. I did one better and cut out all breads, sugars, potatoes, pastas. Whe I returned in Oct 2013 my a1c was 5.7. I kept it up. I started a walking routine. I bought a Fitbit Flex in January 2014. Started in walking my steps, kept up the diet. I became obsessed with getting the steps and many days I had 14,000-15,000. Went back to the Dr in April 2014. I was weighing 188 at this time. I had lost 82# in less than a year. My a1c was 5.3. Glucose 99.

The last couple of months I am struggling though. Still getting the steps in but just barely. Fallen off the wagon in a big way at times. My weight is 195 now so gained a little. I keep crawling back up on thatbandwagon but it is hard! I have my next appointment the middle of October and am worried my numbers will be up. I also still have that extra 50# hanging on.

I love the smaller clothes I can wear and the way I feel...much more energy. But I am struggling.

Kacee - You got this! You have already come a long way so no turning back now. 🙂 Keep up the great work and if you need more encouragement at any time, let me know.

Thank you Donna. Yes, it is one day at a time. The last two have been completely on my program as far as exercise and diet. I CAN do this.

Hi, I bought my Fitbit less than a week ago. In 2004-5 I had multiple blood clots in my lungs & took prednisone off & on for a year. I gained 100 lbs. Due to other health problems I have not been able to lose it. I was diagnosed Type II diabetic about 8 years ago. I reacted badly to Janumet so now use insulin. In the last 18 months I have had 4 surgeries. I had a knee replacement last summer. This past May I had mouth surgery for precancerous condition. I am currently recovering from my second back surgery for herniated/fractured disks. The doctor encourages walking as the therapy. Starting with 1/4 mile a day for a week, then 1/2 mile, etc., I just started 3/4 mi yesterday (1800 steps). I want to lose 115 pounds. From past attempts I know that carbs have the most effect on me (as opposed to fats, general calories). While friends & family are supportive, they do not have the combo of health issues + weight. They are runners and bikers. I promised myself that since the Fitbit cost me $50 I would use it for at least 50 lbs. Looking for a small group of women to encourage each other.

To Mssy - The charge shows up on your dashboard. On my mobile I tap on Zip and it gives last sync & battery level.
