Hi! I'm looking for some friends for motivation and support. I'm 51, female, and working on losing 30 lbs. My A1c is pre-diabetic so I'm shedding some weight to try and get it under control.
Anyone?

Hello
Night time cravings....I have solved the late night cravings by keeping lots of fruit in the house. In adddition, weight watchers ice cream novelty bars are good. Air popped popcorn, good option--no butter or spray or powder butter an alternative.

Portion control should always start on a small scale. Instead of two bread slices at 80 calories a piece buy the 40 calorie bread from Walmart. Or just eat 1 slice. Start out with 1/2 cup of Mashed Potatoes and work it down to 1/3 cup. Replace your eggs with egg beater or egg whites. Switch to Turkey Bacon. If you like Mayo use the fat free Mayo. Instead of a huge plate put your food on a smaller plate. It makes it look like your eating a huge meal!!!! Eat Veggies with your meal, and drink lots of water before and after you eat. Portion Control was really hard for me when I started out in December last year but I have gotten used to it. Last week my coworkers and I went to Chili's and I had a cup of Chicken Enchilida Soup, Not a bowl. My coworkers had a Bacon Cheeseburger, Fries, Tacos, Tortilla Chips with Salsa. Once I finished my Soup I was finished with my meal. They were stuffed and felt bloated, and I felt really good. Portion control is something that you have to do on your own. If you can not do it, your calorie counting and excercise is nullified because you wind up eating too much and the weight that you lost just comes back.

Lower the calories on your bread by buying the 40 calorie wheat bread from Walmart. You can eat two slices for 80 calories, and it costs under $2.00.

I am 53 and I was diagnosed with Stage 1 Breast Cancer and I just had my lumpectomy. I have not stopped even for a week. I had the surgery and was down about 2 days. I am off from work so more sleep (which is important at this age). I have changed my lifestyle since January 30, 2015. I went to the doctor on that day. I gave up all soda (well over 60-90 16/20 oz glasses/week). I am now 166 lbs. I do not DIET - I changed my entire lifestyle (even before the Breast Cancer) and changed what I eat, how I eat, and when I eat. I eat no processed foods (if at all possible), I eat only healthy food from places like Sprouts or Trader Joe's (or something comparable). I am very adamant about not having any foods with any soy (soy produces excess estrogen), no nitrites, and no artificial sweetners, or any sweets with high fructose corn syrup. I eat a lot of ginger, turmeric, I drink shakes in the morning for my breakfast with Ground Flax seed, peanut butter, very low fat milk or plain water. I also will put fruit in there, too and kale. I love my routine now. I work out almost every day. I watch what I burn so I can eat what I want to. I really love quinoa and other bean based products such as tortilla chips and natural salsas etc. I only eat to burn and keep up my energy. Try to get off the idea of DIETing and change to Life Change and cut back. You can do it. I walk, work out on machines (abs and gluts). I know you can do it. Don't eat late or eat fruit. But drink plenty of water as it will fill you up. If you want to know more, you can always message me

Hi Kamiller I love your attitude!! I have recently changed my attitde and have be preserving alot of my own foods over the last few years as well. My family loves all the items that I make over the store bought items. I can't keep my salsa, apple sauce and chilli sauce in the house. I prefer making my own as I then know exactly what is going in it. My husband and daughter have MSG allergies so the more natural the food is the better. I am a nurse and I see every day how a good diet and positive attitude can really change someones life. Good Luck and feel free to add me as a friend if you would like to participate in some challenges or just talk!

Barb,
Thanks for the support and info. I am setting a goal of losing 1 lb a week. I have to be careful to not weigh too often, it can become a little bit of an obsession for me LOL I try and only weigh twice a week, my doctor recommends only weighing once a week.
I'm always looking for more recipes, I do lots of lentils and black beans, yogurt, peanut butter and protein shakes. I like veggie burgers also, no bun.
Thanks

I tried a new recipe today that was different, tasty and only 154cals per serving. Sweet potatoe pancakes they were delicious and filling. Here is the recipe enjoy!
Sweet Potato Pancakes
Yields: 2 servings | Serving Size: 2 pancakes |Calories: 151 | Previous Points: 3 | Points Plus: 4 | Total Fat: 6.1 g | Saturated Fat: 1.6 g | Trans Fat: 0 g | Cholesterol: 164 mg | Sodium: 307 mg | Carbohydrates: 16.2 g | Dietary Fiber: 2.9 g | Sugars: 6.5 g | Protein: 9.1 g
Ingredients1/2 cup cooked and mashed sweet potato 1/3 cup egg beaters or 2 eggs 1/4 cup peanut flour (you can use any kind of flour you want) 1/8 teaspoon baking soda and baking powder (I always use both) 1 teaspoon honey or coconut palm sugar 1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/16 teaspoon salt optional milk (any type), to thin batter if necessaryDirectionsMix well, make sure all the sweet potato is mashed. The batter is pretty thick so I spread it out when I scoop them on the hot skillet. Cook as you would normal pancakes. They don’t “bubble” like normal pancakes, so watch that they are cook thoroughly, but not burned.

I do not necessarily use the word diet but I eat a lot more carefully and have cut out most processed foods. I am still working on that! I am more cautious of my portion sizes as well. I
tried my first Zumba video today what an eye opener as to how out of shape I am. Hopefully by the end of the summer I will be healthier and in better shape! I can't imagine going to a class with all the young thin girls when I am out of shape. Thank goodness for youtube video's.

My Zumba gold class has lots of older women and round folks too. Look around for zumba gold at rec. centers or senior centers. It is fun and you will burn the lbs and build muscle too.
