Hi! I'm looking for some friends for motivation and support. I'm 51, female, and working on losing 30 lbs. My A1c is pre-diabetic so I'm shedding some weight to try and get it under control.
Anyone?

Hi, I just posted for the first time. I got my Fitbit 4 days ago. I am 56 and have over 100 lbs to lose. I've noticed several people here only have 30 lbs or less to lose or are runners, etc. I am a high school teacher and grandmother of 4 boys. Let me know if you are interested in staying in contact.

Keep working with your Fitbit and things will resolve themselves. My wife and I also started using Fitbit in April and have lost approximately 15 lbs each so far. I know it doesn't seem like much but if it keeps going at the current rate we will both have lost about 30 lbs by Christmas. I also have type two diabetes with normal reading pre Fitbit reading of 140 or more. Since staring Fitbit my blood sugar has not been over 90.
Good luck and don't give up when it doesn't seem like your making any progress. Small things are hard to spot sometime.

Had to take a couple of days off from serious walking/running and exercise due to a slight back issue...of course I don't just take a couple of days off from walking, I use it as an "excuse" to go wild, eating too many high caloric foods, having a few adult beverages...etc...(though I still wor emy Fitbit and logged some steps) I even went to the pool on Monday with the thought that being in the pool wouldn't hurt my back and may in fact help it...HOWEVER...I get to the pool and what do I do? Sit in the chair snacking on sandwiches, chips, pasta salad, and having a couple of beers...DUH! WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME? Today is a new day...and I'm feeling more in control and my back pain has certainly eased...SOOOO....back on it! The Fitbit feet are moving again! How is your day going and what are you doing to ensure you stay on track?

I'll be 55 in December. Just started walking the beginning of July and got my flex mid-August. Then lost my job August 21st. This was an opportunity for disaster. How easy to sit and mope. Also get busy online doing job searches and driving around dropping off resumes. I have managed to keep up the 10,000 step daily minimum though and even earned my 25,000 step badge during this time. I do miss going on walks at break time with co-workers though. I'm a little solitary at this point. Thank goodness for my treadmill. I don't have to worry about the weather or the dark.
I would love to have 50+ year old friends to help keep each other motivated. Send me a friend request if you are interested. Wish me luck on my job search AND keeping up my steps.
Carol

Im not pre diabetic but I have two Type 1 Diabetic Nieces under 25 and over 18...and my brother and mother are both type 2. I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and Fibromyalgia and Hashimotos disease. (Its all auto immune related) I take a handful of meds every day and have for the past 10 years just so I can take care of my kids. Otherwise I would be bedridden. Here is how I've lowered my BP and Cholesterol and lost 30 pounds since early May. I try to walk at least 10,000 steps a day. I drink a minimum of 80 oz of water and I eat every two hours. I have read all the books, Atkins, Paleo, Lean for Life, Weight Watchers...etc. Here is what and how I eat; Breakfast - a low fat protien ( I like turkey sausage but Morningstar Sausage links are my favorite) 1 slice of 7carb bread or 1/2 a grapefruit and coffee. Two hours later I have a lowfat protien snack...I love Carb Yogurt from Ralphs. Lunch: 2 cups lettuce, 1 vegtable, one lowfat protien and a fruit. Two hours later I have a snack...usually a lowfat string cheese. Dinner is the same as lunch. two hours after dinner and always before 8 pm I have my last snack. Usually walnuts but sometimes berries and nonfat milk. On the weekends I eat more carbs and I drink. I still have 30 pounds to lose but I figure it's a lifestyle change. Ive really tried cutting my carbs since I was a carb aholic! I do 5ks now and I dont crave soda anymore. I'm hooked on teas of all kinds now and I use Stevia when I want a sweet treat drink. Good luck. Tracking on Fitbit has helped me see all the areas where I was eating empty calories and it helps me track my sleep and steps. 🙂

Morning
This is my full 1st day with my new Fitbit One. I am 59 so hope not too old for this discussion group. 🙂
I have in the past been very active, owing a horse but over the last year since I no longer have him I have gained far too much weight. My BMI is 29 and I have around 16 kilos to loose !!! (35lbs)
I will be pleased to get help with keeping motivated and support as its very easy just to sit down and do nothing. Over the summer I have been busy in the garden but now that the gardening season is coming to an end I know that I will yet again become even less active.
Hence getting the Fitbit One yesterday.
Yesterday I did go out for 2 walking and picked blackberries and was out for an hour. So that was a start.
See what today brings.

The 10,000 steps a day helps me a lot. I've increased my steps after 3 months to 12,000 steps just to challange myself. So congratulations on taking a proactive role on staying active. Especially in the midst of losing a job. I'm here to chat. Good luck! ` Jana

I would like to join. I am 58 years old 164cm short. In January I started 5:2 @ 84.7kgs (I don't handle regular diets well at all, but I can do Monday and Thurday @ 500cals ea, & the rest of the week 1,800cals per day including alcohol on the weekends), and currently weigh 76kgs looking at slowly getting down to 65kgs. I don't have any major health problems (aside from a wide, but shrinking load lol) and try very hard to get my 10,000 steps in per day, although it is usually around 7,000 if I don't assert myself.
