looking for friends - 50s and female and getting fabulous!

Hi!  I'm looking for some friends for motivation and support.  I'm 51, female, and working on losing 30 lbs.  My A1c is pre-diabetic so I'm shedding some weight to try and get it under control.

Anyone?

@Beachlace

Welcome Beachlace and congrats for eating healthy already! That's a huge step!!

Just today I went through my kitchen again, cleaning out the bad stuff, and moving the good stuff right into the front, so I can grab it and use it actually! LOL

I have started my fitbit/weightloss journey in January and lost 57% of my goal of 100 lbs so far. Very very happy about that! And just like you I started with eating right and THEN slowly adding exercise! I believe that 80% of my weightloss so far is thanks to the way I have been eating and 20% thanks to the way I have slowly increased my activity levels.

Walking and yoga and dancing!! My faves too! Do you go to a studio for yoga or are you doing it at home? I have actually decided to become a yoga teacher, my training is starting this September and when I am certified I want to teach people with Depression, Anxiety and PTSD. But also yoga for bigger bodies, because that's how I started this January. 🙂

Anyway - great to meet you and all the best for your journey!!

Birgit

Hi @AnneNchat

I am sorry you had issues with posting! But it worked now!! 🙂

And yes.... eating control... something that would be pretty good for me too! I've been soooooooooooo good in the last 8 months and today I binged a tiny little bit on 3 pieces of Detroit pizza. Vegetarian, but still... cheesy and delicious.

Well it's all about progress, not perfection and tomorrow is a new day!

Monday I am starting a clean eating - real food challenge. i hope to find a few other participants and to run it on facebook. So - if you are interested message me and I'll give you the details!

Walk on!

Birgit

I have sent you some more details on the 5 day real food challenge via private message.

Golf trips are wonderful - if there wasnt the catering at the Club house... LOL I know it too well!

Remember - it's all about progress, not perfection! You are back home now and can go right back into your routine! Maybe add a "green monster" to you daily meal plan to get some more veggies, protein and fibre in. 🙂

I had one today and it was DELICIOUS!!

Hi Tina! That's awesome! Paleo is a good diet for people who enjoy meat, right? But it's also quite challenging as far as I understand it. There are a few paleo recipes that I have tried myself, because two of my friends are following Paleo. Actually, we are a group of 5 ladies and EVERYBODY has certain dietary restrictions.

Can you imagine how hard it is to have a potluck get together that caters to all of this?

- Vegan/vegetarian

- Paleo

- no milk/cream, no citrus fruits like lemon or orange, no walnuts or hazelnuts (pecans are ok)

We have made it a fun adventure, trying all these new recipes. 🙂

Anyway - I have sent you details via messenger. Let me know if you have any questions (or a hard time finding your message board. I find it a bit complicated how to send messages to people here... LOL)

Cheers

BIrgit

Thank you Birgit I am not finding it to hard really! Lots of veggies, berries and I still eat dairy so not a true
Paleo diet but close. It is working well for me. I feel better have lost 17lbs in 5 weeks which is the best
I have done with any diet. I really look at this as a life style change and not really a diet.

I can see how you would have a hard time with so many different diets.

Gosh Tina, 17 pounds in five weeks is fantastic. I did South Beach and it really worked well for me, but I just haven't gotten my head into it yet. But I really liked it because you didn't have to count anything so it was easy to do.

Hi ladies.  I haven't had an opportunity to post these last couple of weeks but I was so happy I had to share!  I started the Take Shape for Life Program on July 29th.  As of Sept. 2 I have lost 17 pounds!  I can't believe how easy this program is.  As long as I have on my FitBit which reminds me to eat, this program has been very easy to follow.  Has anyone else tried this program?

Thank you! I know what you mean. I do not weigh anything or count calories, I just watch my portions and try to eat something different everyday that way I never get bored. Pinterest is great for recipes and I follow a few really good blogs too!

Try cooking for a vegetarian who also is allergic to gluten and soy 😄

Oh yes that sounds fun Deb!
What would say is your go to recipe or cookbook?

I just checked the ingredients in the black bean burgers...
All that needs to be replaced are the oats if they contain gluten. And that could be rice bran, quinoa flakes or even just cooked brown rice!

2 cans black beans (rinsed and drained)
2 carrots, grated
1/2 cup dry rolled oats
1/4 cup pepitas (pumpkin seeds)
1 tbsp olive oil
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp cumin
1/2 tsp coriander
1 chia egg (1 tbsp ground chia + 3 tbsp warm water, mixed well)
1 garlic clove, minced
1/2 tsp chili powder
1/2 tsp onion powder
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
1 tsp sea salt
1/4 tsp black pepper

I am 51 as well, I have tried all of the weight loss programs, fitbit seems to work the best. I have found from all of the helath books, plans and weight loss forums over the years to set goals that do not seem to be over whelming. I to have a goal of 30 pounds of weight loss as well, but what I am doing is puting my weight loss at either 5 or 10 lb increment  goals. The reason for that is some weeks are easier than others, holidays, birthdays, travel ect. I dont sleep well and with the hormones raging some days are better than others.

I do hormone replacemnt therapy which has helped and I do not eat processed food at all and am starting to incorporate more organic non GMO foods.

Good for you for getting your  A1 under controll.

@Dogsrule

Oh yes... I also tried all the weight loss programs out there (so I thought) and then I started fitbit in January and BAM! 30 lbs down! And then I stalled a bit and met an amazing woman who offered to coach me and helped me get into an exercise routine with Pilates and Yoga combined, eating clean (real, non GMO, organic food, mostly plantbased) and suddenly I am down 60 lbs all together! It's such a great feeling!!

But I digress!

5 or 10 lb goals are perfect!! That's what I am doing too... a month at a time. 7 -8 lbs at a time. And life happens. Pizza happens. Birthdays happen. Afterall we want to be able to live like this for the rest of our lifes, right!?

So... another 40 lbs to go, but thanks to the peer support here and on facebook I think it's doable!!

Yeah for us!

Hi

I am a bit of a lurker, I read these posts a few weeks ago and someone suggested setting a series of goals rather than 1 big goal.

I needed to lose 30 kilos, approx (65 lbs). It seemed daunting, almost impossible 😞

I set a mini goal for 5 kilos and achieved it this morning. This is the lightest I have weighed in 5 years, who am I kidding proably 10 years 🙂

So just to say thanks 🙂 it worked. Now onto the next 5 kilos.
