looking for friends - 50s and female and getting fabulous!

Hi!  I'm looking for some friends for motivation and support.  I'm 51, female, and working on losing 30 lbs.  My A1c is pre-diabetic so I'm shedding some weight to try and get it under control.

Anyone?

You should cut yourself a break!  Having surgery that needs 6-8 week recovery is a major assault on your system.  It needed time to recover.  Try to gradually get back into walking and eating right.  I think, at least for myself, all the negative self talk only makes the matter worse.  I've decided that the more positive I am, the better I'll feel, the less likely I'll be to binge, the more likely I'll be to want to exercise or do something fun.  I've beaten myself up throughout my life over my weight, even when I really wasn't over weight!  Look where that's gotten me!  I'm hoping changing my attitude will help me change my pants size.  Try to be kind to yourself!  Have a good day!

Hi, Im 56 and last check up was on pre diabetic status. Had a stroke last year which was odd. Blood pressure was a bit high but they found no good reason for stroke. So Im looking at losing 50lbs. Just got the fit bit with hr. I walk and hike. Started pilates. Hard to get motivated no family and no pudgy friends! So any motivation and kind supportive words appreciated! I wish anyone well on this journey as being female and older makes it harder. So good luck to all! Take one day at a time.

I think I will only weigh myself once a week since every day can be daunting and depressing! Any thougths appreciated.

Hi Judy,

Congratulations on purchasing your fitbit. It is really a nice motivating factor to keep us going. I especially like the badges when you've met milestones, etc. Best wishes on your journey to losing weight and living a healthy life. Taking short breaks and walking around every couple of hours when working in a sedentary environment is helpful.

Hi,

Thank you for your encouraging words and typically, I'm an optimistic and upbeat person 🙂  It was just difficult waiting for the time to recover, but I was a compliant patient....being a  nurse, I truly know what's best. However, sometimes nurses make the worst patients. Yes, let's keep a positive attitude and move forward by encouraging one another and believing we can do this.

Hello,

Well, the beauty of an online community is that we gain friends/family members as we all have the same goals....getting healthy. We may all have different weight loss goals, but we all are on a journey to live a healthier life. Best wishes on your weight loss journey and it's not a bad idea to weigh weekly. However, I'm one who weighs more frequently, it just helps me 🙂

Hello,

I totally understand the difficulty at times to just get moving. We have to put our mind to it and just "do it" as Nike says 🙂 Let's encourage one another and touch base on how we're doing.

I would love to join a group to increase my steps. I have a weekly competition with 2 friends and it seems to help. I am 50 and have about 30 pds to lose. Look forward to connecting with fellow fitbitters to make this process a bit easier!  Smiley Very Happy

Please count me in, I turned 60 five months ago, I started out with 96 lbs to lose and have lost 25 so far, just went through a tough patch, but I am now back on track and ready to continue with the journey,  I work full time, before it was so dark in the am dog and i walked 1-1.5 miles before work,  and again when I got home still walking in the evening, but not in the am. using my old old, decreipit eliptical-which I hate, but gotta do what I gotta do.

Hi Annie,
I'm Rose.  57 years old, but only until Friday.. my b-day.  I live in Norwood MA, but also have a home in Maine.  I've lived in Merrimack NH before.  Love NH~!   You are doing great!  I have 45.5 pounds to lose making it a total of 50, just started my Fitbit two weeks ago, but feel like I really got it working just a few days ago and figured out the website.  I am a medical transcriptionist working at home, so sedentary, but I have no excuse to get out there and walk.  I have a ten year old chocolate lab who loves to walk whenever and wherever.  What kind of dog do you have?  I just got my first badge yesterday.. yaay!  This will be fun.  One foot in front of the other and small changes add up to big results!  Have a great day tomorrow.  stay dry!

I just wanted to throw out some good news and words of encouragement. I got my Fitbit on June 20 and so far have lost 30 lbs. I'm on track to lose another 30 before the end of the year. The Fitbit has helped me get motivated enough that I think I need to change my daily step goal from 10K to 15K because I regularly hit 15K steps in a day. Also, my resting heart rate has gone from the high 90's (sometimes even over 100!) to the high 70's.

Using the food log has been a big help, too. When I start craving snacks or wanting to eat at night, I plug in whatever it is I'm craving, see how much it would "cost" me, and that helps give me the strength to say no.

I was a big beer drinker [and still am on Friday nights!] and a huge mac-n-cheese lover, so if I can do it anyone can.
