Hi! I'm looking for some friends for motivation and support. I'm 51, female, and working on losing 30 lbs. My A1c is pre-diabetic so I'm shedding some weight to try and get it under control.
Anyone?

Hi Pennalynn, Congratulations on the weight loss! That is amazing. And bringing your heart rate down is even better. That was incredibly high resting heart rate. I bet you saved your own life right there. Keep after it. You might have to give up the Friday night beer fest to get all the weight off. And congratulations on getting 15k most days! That is amazing too. I don't have time to get that many step. Keep up the good work! Barb

Hi, I'm very new to the Fitbit community and would really like to be a part of a 50 female group. I'm 52 and hoping to loose 8kg. I'm enjoying my fitbit but not yet commpletely aware of all it's functions. I'm not sure if I'm able to add friends say from here, or do they need to be people on my phone contact list. Sounds like a silly question, but i'm not sure how I add friends. Anyway help would be greatly appreciated.

Happy Fall Saturday!
I need help getting back on track. I have been out of the loop with a STRESSFUL time at work and will continue to be stressful for the next few months. And with cold weather coming, that has always been my downfall. I do have a YMCA membership but have been so depressed and overworked, no motivation to get there. I USED to get up and hit the gym at 5:30 a..m on the way to work, that way, no excuses for what came up the rest of the day. I am going to buy a used treadmill soon for home too. But I need to keep in touch with people to help motiviate me. I am going through a really, really hard time emotionally right now, and eventhough I know working out is one of the best things, I am paralyzed for some reason with what is going on.
I am 51, soon to be 52 in January, and have always struggled with my weight. I LOVE LOVE my Fitbit!!!
I need FITBIT friends please!!!!
I was thinking of starting a fall challenge, if anyone is interested!!!

I've found the most interesting hobby/exercise: Geocaching! Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices (there is a free android or iPhone GPS app). Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location (no treasure, just a sign-in log!). I love the caches that are in the woods, there is nothing more peaceful to me than a stroll/hike through quiet, peaceful nature. You just have to follow the little arrow on your app that directs you to the cache. It will totally distract you from your stress for a bit & get you some outoor exercise! (go to Geocaching.com Click on LEARN & select Geocaching 101 for more info). Right now, whenever I find myself searching the kitchen for some food, I grab my app and run out to find myself a geocache. The walk eases the stress which releives the need for food & the Fitbit keeps track of my walking/hiking distance -- a win/win good feeling!

Thank you for the complement! Redheads have it lucky, it's the last hair color to go gray. I just have a little blonding up around the temples.
I've lost about 30 pounds but I'm taking it really slowly. It's about 15 lbs a year. It didn't get on over night and I will just take my time getting it off. I've heard that if you take the weight off slowly your body has time to get used to being thin and it's easier to keep the weight off. I hope that's the truth!
I love your short hair. That looks so easy! I'm going to have my hair cut and head shaved again for St Baldricks this coming March! It takes 2 years to grow long enough to be able to be used for wigs.
Nice talking to you Anne!

I just got my fitbit one yesterday and would love to talk with others who are over 50 and trying this. I am 56 and I need to lose 40+ pounds(also pre-diabetic). I am wearing the fit bit to get a baseline measurement of my activity or non-activity. I am going to do that for a couple of days and then start my walking program. I am brand new to this forum and I am not sure if I am replying to one person or everyone. I am techie challenged. Hope to hear from folks soon.

Hi Brenda, you are writing to everyone who is signed up for this group. Good luck with your new program.
Walking at least 10k is the challenge. So many are able to do so much more.
I'm pretty much a 10k person. I started losing weight in 2013 and have lost 30 lbs so far. I'm going for 15 lbs or more. I'm hoping to make that goal sometime in 2016. So they don't come much slower than my program but I figure it didn't get the weight on there over night and it has had a long time to become really attached. I'm 62 and as I lose weight I do more work and play so it isn't hard to keep the weight off.
Again, good luck Brenda. We are just a type on the keyboard away.

Hi brendabird,
I too am techie challenged. I have intermittently been posting what I have thought were replies, but I never get any direct replies to my posts so I think I've doing something wrong. I am also 56 and have been wearing my FitBit for the better part of three years. I love it. It's such good motivation; however, I have not lost any weight because until now have not put much effort into the diet portion of the equation. I just rejoined Weight Watchers and am hoping the combination of the two will work. I think it's cool that Weight Watchers recognizes the FitBit and gives me Activity Points for my walking. I'm not yet sure if it's the answer, but the more I read the more I realize that it's got to be a combination of efforts. I have about 25-30 pounds to lose. I think you are going to love your FitBit! Good luck!

thanks! Yes, I know it is diet and exercise that is important. I have to admit...I love to eat! I know it is going to be a 2 part challenge. Glad to hear from you!

Thanks! I really hope this works. You are a great motivation. 30 lbs is amazing. I think the weight has to come off slow with changes I am willing to stick with. Glad to hear from you.

welcome brendabird,
I'm over 50 ... 59 and the weight loss is not doing so well. I am hypothyriod and getting bloodwork done to get on some meds. Hopefully, that will help with energy. Look forward to going the distance with you.

Hi winelover,
CHALLENGE! I need motivation also. I've found out I'm hypothyroid and the dr is trying to figure out meds. Hopefully it'll help with my energy. I need help also with diet ... I'm a carb-hog. Would love to be fitbit buddy.
