mid- 30's. Need to lose 20 pounds/friends to help!

Hey there,

There's probably another topic similar to mine out there but I'm new to this so just figured it would be easier to start my own 🙂

Got a Fitbit Flex for Christmas and I'm loving it! I love to exercise and stay fit so you'd think I wouldn't need to really lost much of anything. I actually don't NEED to- I'm in a healthy BMI for my age/weight but I know I can shed some pounds. I use to maintain my weight between 150-155 and now I'm weighing in at 165! My hubby and I are taking a second honeymoon in June so I REALLY REALLY want to be back in the low 150's by then.

I've got my health goals written down and I"m keeping track of what I eat/do as much as possible. I'd love some friends to have for accountability and to give me a "That's ok-" when splurge on my chocolate 😉 which is my weakness 🙂

I'm a stay-at-home mom of 4 so I don't go to the gym. Instead I have a treadmill and I have ankle weights and dumbbells up to 8 pounds and I also do Walk Away the Pounds to change up my routine. I have osteoarthritis so my knees hurt easily- I've tried jogging but it just aggrivates my knees too much so I stick to walking but I can just about hit walking 5 MPH! ( I'm tall...the long legs help me with speed )

Hello!

I have more like 70lbs to lose, but 20 lbs should be a good challenge. I break my meals into 100-200 calorie meals. That way for some meals I can fit in that cookie that has been taunting me. My Charge HR is set to deliver on the 13th so for now I am going by what my body bug tells me.

I wish I had a treadmill, that way I could break my walks up into more manageable times. For now I am using my H.O.A gym doing about 30 minutes a day, working up to 1 hour or more. I don't have space in my 1 bedroom condo for a treadmill though 😞

You can do this, just stick to your calories and keep up the walking. I am cheering you on!

Good luck on meeting your goal! It sounds realistic. 🙂

Considering you struggle with pain from jogging, if you have the money and floor space, you might want to consider using an elliptical sometimes instead of just a treadmill. Treadmills can be pretty rough on your knees because of the impact when you take a step. Ellipticals have much lower impact and are less likely to give you knee pain, even if you work up to a more strenuous pace.

Hi Noir,

I totally understand your situation.  I'm looking to lose 40 pounds and would love to help encourage (and in turn be encouraged) someone with their weight loss.  I started off pretty slow before I had the fitbit, 30 minute workouts three times a week.  Now I'm working out more but finding the rut starting to set in.  If you're interested, how about we cheer each other on?

Take care for now,

Angela

PS:  Totally open to anyone else too who needs some encouragement!! 😄

thanks for the input about using an elliptical! I'll have to look into that.

It's tough dropping the pounds when there's still holiday treats in the house 🙂 For now I'm not overindulging in them- just having a servings worth a day. Can't wait until they're gone so that will be one less temptation for me! 🙂

I added you to my friends AngeI_A 🙂

Last night I had a snack attack. I ate a extra 200 calories. I normally don't do that since I eat every 2 hours...but I had soup for dinner and that was not filling enough. Won't do that again. I did not get time in the gym last night either, but I had about 20 minutes of activity from shopping for grocery's.

Today I am meeting with some family to have lunch at a Jewish deli. I am going to have a fruit salad. I have never had it before and they have a choice of yogurt or sherbet...not exactly sure what they are going to do with those. It also comes with cottage cheese...I am sure it is good though. I am going to have to meticulously count all the food, which I hate. I like logging things that are easy to count like a banana or apples or toast. It is still a treat to get to go out though 🙂

Hi Noir,
I hear you on the late night snacking.  I have the same issue sometimes, but mostly after work when I have down time.  For some reason I really crave chips or carbs in general.  I find that I work out during that time to try to keep the cravings down and usually keep on my person something like fruit or veggies to snack on in the car on the ride home. I am actually not counting calories as I am also a weight watcher memory, so everything I do or eat is in points.  But it's pretty much the same thing except fruits and veggies that are fresh count as zero points so I don't have to worry on those snacks.  I have to say combining the fitbit with the WW program actually is awesome.  I've lost already tons of weight and am 40 pounds within my desired goal (meaning I will have lost over 100 lbs total by the time I reach it!).  I have to say being accountable to someone or some program is totally what I need.  I've lost before but then I slack after a few months have passed.  So I am totally glad you responded as I need some accountability to keep moving and keep eating right.
I hope your day have gone well!  Look forwards to hearing your progress!
Warmly,Angela

Working out instead of snacking is a great idea! I wish I had a treadmill. I also would have lost 100 lbs by the time I get to goal. You has come so far, you got this!

I have not been on track for the past 2 days, but I am renewed again and am going to put the pedal to the metal until Feb 14, V-day. How is everyone else doing?

Keeping on track can be discouraging sometimes. I've lost 38lbs since thanksgiving but still need to go 20 more. Just got the charge HR. Wish I could wear the zip at work and the new hr after!

Congratulations on losing 38 lbs.!!!

I also have the Charge HR, I love it. I think it is really accurate at counting calories. What is the most important change you have made?

Eating very few calories and walking 10-25 miles a day!

Thank you for the inspiration! I hope to do even half of your walking soon. You are going to blast through those last 20lbs! How do you get in all the walking? Do you break it up or do it in one go?

I put in around 5 during work and the rest at home, mostly on a treadmill.
