not losing weight ?

Hello everyone,

So I lost about 40 lbs last year and now I have about 11 lbs to lose (so nothing crazy) but I failed at being in a calorie deficit these past months.I've been in a calorie deficit now for 20 days (no overeating or cheating).

I aim for a deficit of more than 600 calories most of the time.I do IF some days, even OMAD once a week.I don't own a scale and don't really want to have one but I track "my progress" by looking at the mirror and seeing how my clothes fit.But yet no changes...how discouraging !

I'm vegan, and broke (lol),I eat mostly fruits and veggies, beans, sometimes dairy free halo top or protein bars if I can afford it.I count precisely my calories and use a food scale.I usually do 15k-25k steps a day.I suffer from depression so I sometimes forget to eat almost all day,or undereat.

I don't consume liquid cals,only coffee,herbal tea and water.

Could someone explain me why I seem to defy the laws of thermodynamics ?

Hello @misosweet

A possible explanation is that your calorie intake is too low and your body went into a survival mode, shutting down some functionalities, in order to reduce its calorie expenditures, this can create a positive net calorie or at least a null balance. This is not good and dangerous in mid term as your body will suffer.

You should reduce your deficit to 250 calories instead of 600, increase your calorie intake and increase your activity level: walking only does not eat that much calories.

Reasonable explanation. Losing weight is not about starving or exhausting your body. It needs its calories to function properly. When my brother suffered from depression he also didn't eat much or forgot to eat at all. Soon he experienced health worsening. He even couldn't perform in bed (I saw a Buy viagra online tab in his browser history). Everything should be done in moderation. When you try to treat some aspect (like weight), don't forget about another (general health).

Hello! I eat fruits, too. For today's lunch, I measured out 1/4 c of blueberries for my salad. Be careful with fruits...you got to measure them out too. Yes, they are good for you, but pay close attention to your serving portions. Looks can be deceiving...beg, borrow, or steal a scale to monitor your progress or lack thereof (I bought a scale at a thrift shop for $2). It's basically math...If you truly keep on track with a caloric deficit with accurate tracking, and are truly on a good nutritional diet...no junk food, and if you exercise almost every day...You Will Lose Weight. However, one big cheat day.... or even one big cheat meal...or failing to chart those little snacks, can all sabotage your other good efforts. Also note: And this is important: As you lose weight, you have to adjust your calorie intake downward along with the weight reduction...You can't consume the same number of calories that you were consuming when you were 40 lb. heavier. Best wishes for your health journey to a better tomorrow!

It was very difficult for me to lose even a kilogram. I did sports for a long time and didn't get any results. When I read endomorph meal plan  , I started to follow a diet. At that time I was doing sports and drinking a lot of water. Now I am so happy that I lost weight. I still have a little more to achieve the desired result

You have to consider your diet, fruits, vegetables, and beans are nutritious choices, it's essential to ensure you're consuming a balanced mix of macronutrients. Adequate protein intake can be especially crucial for weight loss as it helps with satiety and muscle maintenance. Additionally, prioritizing whole grains, healthy fats, and a variety of plant-based protein sources can provide you with a more well-rounded nutrient profile.
