virtual hike starts 6/3

I'm starting a virtual hike of the Florida Keys tomorrow, June 3.  That way, instead of just saying I took 10,000 steps, I can say "I made it to Key West!)  I thought I'd start with the shortest trail.

Join me and let's post our progress and encourage each other!

Joy, pleasw tell me the scenery gets better! Mostly, how much do you walk each day? And how do you find the time? You must be pretty fast!

I'm definitely not fast Bobbi. I walk about an hour in the morning and then sometimes again in the evening for maybe 40 minutes. I seem to be doing between 2 and 5 miles a day. I squeeze the hour in before work, not easy, and then my husband and I usually go in the evening. I walk slowly, but my "slowly" is getting faster.

Sometimes we walk in our neighborhood but mostly I love to go over to the boardwalk on the Long Island Sound. Watching how the water changes is so soothing and I love to watch all the birds. I also have the option there to walk trails in the woods so it's a win/win walk. Where have you been walking?

Joy, I'm just walking around my neighborhood, which is a suburb, with very large pretty trees. It's nice, but not nearly as nice as your walk.  On weekends I go birding at parks or Cape May.  In pretty places, I can walk so much further.  Your mileage is great.  I had a foot injury and am adding on steps gradually.  I have hit 10,000 a couple of times but don't want to re-injure myself, so it's a bit slow.  I used to live in NY, so I have a sense of the kind of area you are talking about - wonderful.  I miss it.

I am sorry Joy!

Canolis are sure amazing. But those vanilla custard pastries from Portugal are just... ugh... to die for.

Today I managed to pass by that counter at the supermarket, just to end up in front of the seasonal special Ritter Sport flavours. Yikes

Well... needless to say I went over my calorie budget again. But dinner was light and healthy and I know TTOM is ending in 1-2 days and then the cravings should subside too!

Update on the Trail - I am half way along on my 2nd leg of the Camino Trail between France and Spain. The pictures show beautiful pastures and actually really well prepared trails. Many of them paved or wide with gravel.

So far I have walked a bit over 23 miles which is pretty cool. I never thought those daily steps would add up so fast!

I love yoga, pilates, knitting, my fitbit and walking my dog! +++ Started with 100 lbs to lose - 60% there - reclaiming my life and health!

Hi Joy!

I can't find the group, and I'm pretty tech-savvy! I can only see "All Private Groups" and "Neighbors."

My username is Chananigans, so if you could please add me, I would really appreciate it!

Hi! Would you know your id#? I can't find you when I search Chananigans. We are a public group, not private. We should be listed there when you scroll down but I could add you by id# too. Hope this helps.

wow.  you guys sure do walk!  It got very hot and humid here, with bad air quality.  Sooo...going to try to hit the gym/treadmill tomorrow.  I can't imagine ever doing as much as you guys do.  *sigh* left behind in the dust.  But this is fun, isn't it?

I don't know how everyone else is doing it...

Bobbi, I also have a hard time getting out to walk.  I have a foot that hurts like a mother#@$! when I walk on hard surfaces, I think it's called Plantar Fasciitis (whatever it is, I KNOW it's weight-related).  So, until I lose enough pounds to actually walk without pain or limp, I'm using walking videos I find online.  For some reason, I have zero pain when I'm wearing my runners and walking on carpeting.  One reason is likely that I land on the ball of my foot rather than heel.  ANYWAY...LOL  I try to get 5000 steps in while at work (I work in an office so some days it's very difficult)  I always take the long way to bathroom, get up every hour and do a lap around the floor.  Then, the rest of the night I find good videos with good-paced music and I walk the rest of my steps until that beautiful little vibration hits my wrist.  Oh! and Guns N' Roses has some great beats to walk to also!!

Joy, thanks for managing the whole virtual walk. I appreciate the time you put into it. You are so far ahead of me, I'd need binoculars to see you!
