I'm starting a virtual hike of the Florida Keys tomorrow, June 3. That way, instead of just saying I took 10,000 steps, I can say "I made it to Key West!) I thought I'd start with the shortest trail.
Join me and let's post our progress and encourage each other!

Joy -
the Graston rods used to kill me. It is supposed to break up scar tissue, and I had plenty. I do think it helped (I hope so) and then when we stopped, the healing really began. It's very hard to know how much exercise and stretching, and all of the other techniques help, and at which point they are further irritating it. I know that early on I used to re-tear my achilles and plantar fascia very easily and had to learn to balance stretching and strengthening with keeping it quiet. Though I guess that's the big balance in life - how much to challenge and how much to soother? Do you take any meds? I didn't and was later told that was foolish. I was told I should have taken some kind of aspirin or anti-inflammatory to help healing. I thought I could tough it out and that was just silly. Glad it's feeling better.

About our next walk - since I am bringing up the rear (if only that was literal!) I have a suggestion. Let's all start another one together. You guys can't wait for me....that would defeat the purpose. How about if someone finishes, we only wait if someone is nearby. I'm fine starting a new walk. I've looked, can't find one for Paris. I still think it is my obligation to go there and film several Paris walks. You know, for the sake of everyone's health. I don't really care which trail it is, so if anyone has a preference that's fine. Several of them seem pretty. Whatever others want is good with me. I think it mostly depends on how it is photographed. What does everyone else think?

Joy, I'm glad you felt good enough to get in another walk yesterday.
Where do you see info about Fat Burning Zone? I haven't seen that yet. Thanks

Hi Bobbi,
When you press the side button on your Fitbit, to view that exercise session in detail, you can see the graph of your heartrate and what zone you were in.
As per the Graston rods, they really hurt me. My PT says that I have a lot of adhesions from all the walking. I am just so sore right after though. Like you said, finding that just right balance seems to be quite the enigma. I'm trying not to stretch cold as it really aggravates my achiles. My calf seems ok to stretch cold. So I'm still icing the achiles, as I think it is inflamed, and heating the other calf. I've been taking Ibuprofin when I'm really sore. They have me doing a lot of exercises that I really feel, heel raises, calf presses and heel presses. Mostly, Ive slowed down my walking. Maybe, surprise, surprise, my orthotics will actually be ready this week. It's one month tomorrow, since I saw the podiatrist, and he promised me he'd have them in two weeks. Of course it doesn't help that he forgot to send in the order, sheesh! OK, enought complaining. I'm going out to walk, by the beach, in this glorious warm breezy day!

Thanks so much for the heads up on walking for fun! I joined this evening and started the Pacific Coast trail because I have always been interested in it, living on th Pacific Coast as I do 🙂

You are very welcome Auroram. I'd love to do that Pacific Coast Trail next. I drove it in another lifetime and it was magnificent. Anyone else like to do that trail next?

Joy, sorry for your discomfort. I know how painful/annoying it can be. I was in PT for up to 3 hours, 3 times weekly doing exercises, Gastron, steroids on my skin with an electric current, icing, heating, stretching....what an ordeal. I still fo a lot of the exercises daily. Two thoughts: if your orthotics don't arrive, purchase inserts. They make all kinds that support the foot and stabilize the walk. Also, find out what kinds of shoes and sneakers you should wear. It may not matter that much with the orthotics, but check. When I was in pain I switched to a softer shoe, and was told that was a really bad idea. I needed stability. So I will always be buying these very stabilizing sneakers (Brooks). Also, I had to do hip and lower back stretches and strengthening - it helps. It's all connected. I was told my achilles and p.f. were more vulnerable because my calf was so tight, because my hips were so tight, ....etc. Hope you feel better soon.

Pacific coast trail sounds great. I drove it in the ...um...60s. *sigh* . Of course, the amount I walk compared to you guys, I may not see much of it! 😉

I think you MUST go to Paris, for the group. Oh, and I'd like to accompany you. You will need someone to hold your camera equipment and croissants.

So glad to see everyone doing so well. I had a bit of a bad week (medical reasons) which made hitting 10k steps unavoidable but everything's now back to normal and I'm doing great.
I've signed up for a 25km charity walk in September (about 15.5 miles for my American friends). It's much more than I've done in the last year so it's a big deal to me. It also means going back to outside walking which does strike fear in me with my bad foot. But, I've bought some nice new runners and hope that some good inserts will do the trick.
I have an 8-week plan to get ready for the walk which will also have me easily hitting my 10k. I may be attempting to bite off more than I can chew LOL But I'm nothing if not determined LOL
Anyway, I now plan to go visit the virtual walk site to see the sights I've missed. Can't wait to see how far along everyone has gotten in my absence!! You all keep me inspired so keep it up!!!
