virtual hike starts 6/3

I'm starting a virtual hike of the Florida Keys tomorrow, June 3.  That way, instead of just saying I took 10,000 steps, I can say "I made it to Key West!)  I thought I'd start with the shortest trail.

Join me and let's post our progress and encourage each other!

Hi Nicole, we'd love to have you join our group. We are now on the Pacific Crest trail. On the map, click on group and you will see the Virtual Group there. Just click on the name. I've been disappointed with the pictures also. I keep on wishing I could zoom in on all of them.

I just figured out how to join the group! When you are on the "Friends" tab, go to the bottom of the group and click on "Search Groups" you will see # 9 "6/3 Virtual Hike" and it's a public group, so you just click to join.

I don't know about you guys, but the heat and humidity are slowing me down. I did some weights and pilates instead today

@Bobbinyc the heat is slowing me down for sure, even my dog doesn't want to play in the backyard. Good for you, for doing something else!  I've been a bit lazy.  Does Vanessa post on here? I didn't go back through the thread, but we seem to always be passing eachother on the trail.  I'm finally on Stage 2, I don't normally check my computer on the weekends, so it was nice to catch up this morning and check out the photos from my weekend mileage.

I do I do post on here!  LOL  Great to actually see someone on the trail...having someone with you on walks makes it go faster eh? LOL

I too am being slowed down by the heat...unfortunately, I have a 25 km charity walk to prep for and little time to do it so I'm trying to endure the heat.  Just finished a 7.5 km practice walk.  I'm sooo hot.  The great news is that my foot is getting better and better and I'm getting to the point where that distance is almost painless...still very tiring but at least the pain isn't a major factor anymore.

Looking forward to seeing you on the trail @WordWhimsy  and hoping to catch you in future @Bobbinyc and @Joy_  Smiley Very Happy

Oh, this is Vanessa btw  LOL

Great work everyone!!

For the rest of July and throughout August I'll likely rack up many more steps than I will following that.  I'm training for a 25km charity walk that takes place the first week of September.  I just need to get to a place where I will have the physical ability to complete it.  Once it's done...I'm sure my steps will begin to relax again.

That's how I'm doing - sore sore and more sore LOL  And fatigue but enjoying the results of the effort.  Hope everyone else is doing well!!!

Whoa! Vanessa!  How many miles did you walk today??  Nipping at my heels?  You are waaay too far ahead of me!  And you are doing this through August?? Yikes!

Thanks so much for your kind words.  I really appreciate it.  And I am very impressed that you are doing a 25 K.  I was just thinking of maybe, someday, doing a 5K.

Now slow down, lady!

It looks as though I'm going to finish my day near the 19k mark!  fitbit is telling I've walked 8.01 miles!  I know, I'm actually impressed with me too LOL But, let me tell you...my feet are furious with me right now LOL

I'm determined to do this 25 km.  Once upon a time a few year back I did a 60km walk (it was spread over 2 days).  I'm nowhere near able to do that these days but I'm working towards it.

I remember you mentioned a foot injury that you're healing from...once that's fully taken care of I'm sure we'll be seeing your dust!

Vanessa, you rock! I had thought that walking 3 miles would be great. You guys re-defined great. When you walk, you really WALK!
Joy- did you actually walk 6 miles yesterday? Must be a computer glitch.
All of you are very impressive.

Finally hit stage 3, Vanessa you are smoking! Way to go on the charity walk.  I have a 1/2 marathon that I need to get training for in October.

What devices does everyone use?  I currently use the One in purple, because i like the clip, but my Polar HR montior just died, so I just purchased the Charge HR in purple (my husband just got that device yesterday in black) and I like that fact that you can switch between devices on the same account.  Sometimes I don't want to wear the wrist monitor.  I think I will mostly use my clip, but use the Charge for when I'm doing intense workouts and want to monitor my HR.  I'm so excited to get it.  I know it's silly but i'm hoping it gets me excited about working out again.  I really like the virtual walk.

@WordWhimsy

Way to go for Stage 3!  I totally agree...the virtual walks are fun.  It's that added little motivation for me as I get so curious about what things looked like for the steps I walked that day.

Good luck on the marathon training.  That distance is no small feat!!  It's such a committment...I still fight off the nagging voice in my head that always tries to convince I can skip a walk LOL

I use the fitbit Flex.  It works fine for me right now but I can see a time someday in the future wanting to upgrade.  When I get all sweaty, the plastic wristband really gets on my nerves LOL

@paperclip it's only a 1/2 marathon, so your 25k is actually a few miles longer.  I don't know if I could ever do a full marathon.  As they say, I'm only half crazy Smiley Happy

Tonight i'm going to attempt a Cardio Tennis class, that I haven't done in about 4 years, I'm quite out of shape, so we'll see how it goes.  It's actually a tough class even when I'm in shape, so I'm both excited and nervous.  Here's to getting back at it, and getting a bunch of steps in!

Have a wonderful day everyone.
