Just in case: you cannot "spot reduce". If you have excess fat in one specific area (for instance around your stomach), you will have to reduce your overall body fat (by eating less than you burn), and hope most of it will come from the desired area. Exercise can increase the size of the targeted muscles: for instance, if you do lots of planks or leg raises, your abs will grow. However, they won’t cause fat reduction in that region (nor does fat transforms into muscle).

Dominique states the truth. You can't spot reduce.
If you're at a caloric deficit - you will lose weight from the places you put it on last. Fat seems to be a "Last in, First out" type deal.

Agreed, you can't spot reduce from exercise, Medical procedure is the only way to target.

I've lost 12 lbs, but only an inch off my midsection. I lose it everywhere else first. Very frustrating, but not giving up!
I'm going to try pilates along with my other workouts.

Several things can contribute to this problem, body fat, weakened abdominal muscles, full digestive tract, water retention, etc. So identifying what is contributing to your problem will help. For body fat, obviously reducing your weight helps. Exercises that strengthen the abdominals will help keep your gut in. Diet of small meal portions with water and roughage will help keep your digestive tract less full. Drink water and minimize salt intake to control water retention.

I don't want to make assumptions, but I think you might be young. What may work for adults may not work for you. Overall all the points made here won't hurt you, but depending on your age, you may need a higher calorie intake or a better mix of nutrients than what may be suggested. If you eat well, sleep well and stay active you will see a change in your body that will make you very happy. Talk with your doctor about this so they could give you the benefit of their experience. If I am wrong about your age, apologize.

We all have something we don’t like about our bodies, that’s how it is. Even having the "perfect body" (assuming there’s such a thing) won’t guarantee happiness. See Marilyn Monroe.

Ah Derp please don't say that...this is going to sound stupid, but if you can change out a couple food items at a time, and learn to love plant and lean protein foods now, you have like 83 years left of loving your body! I lost 90 pounds, and believe me, I HATED myself. Turns out, I hated a lot of stuff, and because of that I didn't care what I ate as long as it made me feel good for a little while. What I really hated was pictures of me, my bad relationships, the way I thought people talked about me (if they saw a fat guy at all), and the sleepy, tired, sick way I always felt. Pizza and online vidya were my drugs. I missed out on a lot of time.
I really like the machine my body has become. I started slow, first by smiling secretly inside each time I passed up free donuts at work, or had only water and no soda at a restaraunt, like I had a secret mission no one else knew. Before I even realized it, I found that my pants felt ridiculously huge. Then suddenly I could climb stairs easier, and walk farther, and felt happier and less sad (even light excersize will do this for you!)
The thing I'd say is most important for you and anyone in our shoes is to stop comparing your body to anyone else's. The pictures on Instagram aren't real!
How to start for free? I loved the Biggest Loser workout videos, because they took out the guesswork. Plus, each DVD at Walmart is cheaper than two fast food meals. Just put on some sweats, and follow along. I started with weight loss Yoga, still LOVE it. After two weeks, it becomes a habit. Also, the FitBit app is free, and you can type in most any food...no guessing. Someone suggested youtube before, and it's a great source, but be careful as there's wrong stuff out there too.
You can and should love your body, and there's a lot of us here who care and have been there too. You aren't alone.

I you have such thoughts seek help please.
Exercise alone, will not help you as much as somone who knows how.....
Be smart, talk to your parents, someone about your "problems"
People who don’t want help themselves suffer. Be smart, get help.

@Derp5150 You're definitely not alone. Having a positive body image is difficult for a young girl. One study reports that at age thirteen, 53% of American girls are "unhappy with their bodies." This grows to 78% by the time girls reach seventeen. Please talk about your feelings to an adult that you know and trust such as a parent or school counselor. The help should make you feel better.

Yeah, kids are unhappy with their bodies b/c such **ahem**ing adults created it.
We, adults with our unrealistic photos of professional models created this jungle for younger generation. FYI – before 1 shot for the magazine at list 4-6 weeks of hard training and extreme diet + Photoshop is required.
We told our youngsters ----you need to have perfect body, mind, have perfect scores this type of b/s and look at the outcome that we created for our own children, grandchildren, close family.
We also are the one that would pay the price for this nonsense.
