The generally accepted ratios are....

  • Carbohydrates: 45 to 65 percent of total daily calories

  • Fat: 20 to 35 percent of total daily calories

  • Protein: 10 to 35 percent of total daily calories

But, there is still a lot of disagreement among 'experts' hoping to make money hawking their diet solutions....low fat....low carb....etc.  So, its a fairly confused/confusing area.

this can vary a LOT between people and their chosen way of eating.

for me:

fats: 65-70%

protein: 20-25%

carb: <10%

it's what works for me. i steadily lose weight, am not starving myself and feel great.  to each his own.

I would take a look at what you are currently doing - what do those macros work out to be?

I found this online:

Zone Diet : 30% fat, 30% protein, 40% carb

I can give you mine, FWIW:

70-75% fat, 20-25% protein, >10% carb = 20g or less/day.

Here is a resource for calculating on Bodybuilder.com   http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/issa64.htm

A person's needs aren't based on percentages. You need a certain amount of protein (roughly 1 gram per pound of lean body mass - less if you're very inactive and don't mind losing muscle mass), carbohydrate based on your activity (high intensity cardio/weight-lifting runs off carbs), and the rest can be fat.

Google the phrase "diet percentages" in quotes and there's articles about it.

Yes, as the other poster stated, your macros aren't based on a percentage, but on grams and your required caloric intake. If you are interested in using macros, go to the website IIFYM ("If it fits your macros").  There is a great calculator on that site for figuring out what your macros should be, based on your stats, goals, and lifestyle.  Plus a lot of other good information.
