why am I losing lean mass and not body fat

I notice that my body is staying about the same but my lean mass is dropping. Why is this?

So, let's back it up!

 

What kind of regime are you doing? Have you just upped your cardio or are you also supplementing your exercise with weight-lifting and resistance training?

 

What are you eating? Specifically, are you making sure to have protein in your diet? Usually your need around 50g a day. 

 

Also, with weight loss in general you do lose some lean mass. It's all about keeping up with yourself and building up new lean mass. However, no weight training and not keeping up with your protein could definitely be the cause! (If that's the case) 🙂

What says your LBM is dropping?

 

When you go from really great endurance cardio shape to stopping workouts and eating the same, you actually can gain fat and lose water weight at the same time - duplicating whan you see.

But that's only for short time, then it gets ugly.
