New to Fitbit today!! Obviously I was a good girl because Santa brought me a Fitbit. Lol Anyway, I love to stay active and have wanted a Fitbit for awhile just to track my normal daily activities, steps, calories, etc. Just finished setting it up and looking forward to getting started. I probably will not log food in today since it's Christmas and I am considering today my cheat day! Love to meet new people and would love to have friends that are new and experienced so maybe you can help me figure this thing out.

Enjoy your christmas cheating dinner @SunsetRunner , never restrict anything from your food plan, allow yourself to have anything you want but in moderation. It's not about loosing weight in itself, but changing food habits,.. where you are happy with and becoming fitter / healthier.
Restricting a certain food now for a while and eventually craving for and eating more of it since of having 'forbidding it to eat'. Instead when wanting something (piece of cake, chocolat,..) take a thinner slice of cake than usual or eat half of the chocolat.. or the whole bar when really desiring it to eat.
No foods are good or bad, finding a natural balance between eating more natural food (fruit, vegetables,..). Limiting pre-packaged food / pre-prepared food (the ones with the contents on the label unable to pronounce the names) and the food you never want to forbid (the food we enjoy now to eat, we'll always want to eat those certain food, regardless it's being 'labelled' as 'bad food'. Allow to have some but in moderation.
Never force to eat something you don't like, even if it's something healthy (a certain vegetable never eaten before, piece of fruit,..), but it doesn't taste good, stop eating it 'cause the body doesn't prefer it then, and try some other alternative instead.
There are things where someone else can say 'oh this taste wonderful, try some', it could be tasting wonderful ourself to but it's also possible that it taste not that wonderful for ourself and actually not liking it all.
Everyone is unique, the foods every 'body desires' can be totally different and vary from moment to moment, when for example at dinner you may fancy a salad yourself, a different piece of meat,.. someone else can prefer to have something totally different instead like desiring to eat spaghetti, may be even french fries,.. our bodies naturally tell us which nutritients it needs, what it wants to have as energy and what will be the most healthy for at the moment (even if it's desiring for something less healthy').
Enjoy the Christmas Dinner, and your new 'buddy'.
When having any questions, don't hestitate to ask.
Merry Christmas all awesome people

Is it a Fitbit Charge HR? (with heart rate monitor)?
The tracker monitors automaticly heart rate throughout the day / night. This can be set to on / auto / off. It has the convenience when exercising, the tracker already is with you, just press and hold the button until the tracker buzzes when desired to log the exercise (automaticly measures heart rate during exercise as well when set to auto / on).
After exercising, press and hold the button 'till it buzzes and displays the total time of exercise. When the tracker sync's, the exercise is added as 'workout' to the account. Any exercise can be logged this way (walking, weight lifting, yoga, cycling,..).
* Logging as exercise is optional, when going to the store it's not really needed to track, if walking a certain route for becoming fitter as example, then it can be tracked this way seperately to know the heart rate fluctuations while walked the route in this example and knowing how many calories would have been burned from doing the activity.
It's also possible in the trackers settings (profile settings on account), when double tapping the tracker to display a certain information directly on screen:
If setting to display 'heart rate', during exercising or between sessions, when double tapping the heart rate appears to know to speed up, slow down, or staying at the same pace depending on the goals. When seeing the heart rate has gone up to much, then it's also possible to take a longer break or to stop when feeling to exhausted and the heart rate has gone up to high so deciding to rest instead.
For more information about heart rates:

StefanC,
Hi, I am fairly new and hope to get really motivated once the holidays are over in January AND we're going to FL for a couple of weeks. I have a bike down there that I love to ride but I have been wondering how my FitBit One will record when I am riding my bike.
Is there any special way that you know of that I can attach my FitBit One to my body so that it will record my exercise on my bike??
Thanks for your informative email I just read here!!

I'm new as of today too. I just synced up my flex and I'm curious to see how this all works. I'm hoping this will help motivate me into moving more.

I am a newbie, too. I bought one for myself and my daughter (my personal trainer) for Christmas. I've been trying all day to download and get online! Already I'm learning so much from these boards and discussion groups. Can't wait to use it for sleep tonight and activity tomorrow. I'm actually looking forward to a workout and seeing how many steps I take.

new fitbit surge user.
actually bought it a few weeks ago.
returned it due to issues and decided to purchase it again
ive decided that i feel fitbit is working on the product to consistantly make it better with firmware updates.
and that the few issues i am having now are not going to be a product killer.
i love the surge's fit and feel, the stats and the dashboard.

For the one, you'll have to log cycling as exercise seperately since it cannot detect cycling (tracker is designed to track steps from walking / running, though it's not capable of detecting when riding for example a bike).
Press and hold the button 'till it buzzes and starts a timer, after cycling, press and hold the button once more so it buzzes and displays the time of 'exercise'.
It works the same as tracking sleep, however the exercise should appear on the activities page instead where you can edit to the correct exercise (cycling) to get a estimate of the calories burned and get credit for doing the exercise.
Its possible it can show up on the sleep log page instead but can be moved to the activities page.

Thanks @SunsetRunner
I have used my iphone (Runkeeper app) when I biked, which will give me time, distance, calories burned etc. I wonder would it be more accurate to just manually log the info from my Runkeeper to my FitBit activities page??
I think I'll try it both ways. I really appreciate you telling me how to do it using the FitBit.
Have a Great Day & Happy New Year
